Springfield, Mass. – January 6, 2025 – Springfield College Director of Athletics Dr. Craig Poisson has announced the promotion of Max Berkowitz to Director of Strategic Athletic Communications, effective immediately.
“Since Max joined the Springfield College community in April of 2023, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhance the student-athlete experience,” said Poisson. “He possesses an extensive background in the field of sports communication that covers the spectrum from in-game stats to the nuances of streaming and everything in between. I look forward to working with Max in his new role that is critical to all we do in intercollegiate athletics at Springfield College.”Berkowitz will be responsible for the communications efforts for all 26 NCAA Division III varsity athletics programs at Springfield and will also be heavily involved in the Athletic Hall of Fame, Alumni Golf Tournament and the End of the Year Athletics Banquet. Additionally, he will be responsible for oversight of interns and student workers in the athletic communications office, website maintenance, designing and creating athletics enrollment management materials, developing social media content, overseeing game-day functions, using video production and graphic design to promote the College, and enhancing alumni and donor communication in coordination with the Friends of Springfield College Athletics fundraising arm.
Since arriving at Springfield, Berkowitz has been a critical piece of the athletic communications office. He launched a partnership with SIDEARM Sports to produce Springfield’s new athletic website in the winter of 2024 and also was integral in helping the department begin its media rights deal with FloSports in the summer of 2024. He also helped the department host two NCAA Division III Football Tournament Championship games and an NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Regional pod last spring.”I want to thank Dr. Poisson for the opportunity to step into a new role and leadership opportunity,” said Berkowitz. “Brian has prepared me over the past 20 months to take this job and I cannot wait to continue to tell the stories and successes of our student-athletes and teams here on Alden Street.”Berkowitz steps into a position that was previously held by Brian Magoffin, who recently stepped down to take on a role with the Office of the President and Board of Trustees at Springfield College. Magoffin made a lasting impact on the college community, student-athletes, coaches, staff and alumni as he grew Springfield’s brand to the top in both New England and across Division III during his 18 years in athletics. For the latest on Springfield College Athletics, follow the Pride on social media on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
