Williamsport — Marshall, Parker & Weber, an estate planning and elder law firm founded by Jeff Marshall, widely recognized as the “Father of Elder Law,” celebrated its 45th anniversary with area professionals on May 22 at its 29th Annual Professional Update.

The 29th Annual Professional Update featured “The Year in Review” by Principal Matthew J. Parker, where Parker reviewed what has changed in the past year regarding seniors and a look at what lies ahead for the law and regulations. The second session was a panel comprised of Nathan Grenoble, Grenoble Funeral Homes; Loni Kline, senior VP for college relations and chief philanthropy officer at Pennsylvania College of Technology; and Principal Tammy A. Weber, addressing “End of Life Planning for Clients.”

The three panelists focused on planning for one’s intentions at death, drawing unique correlations between funeral, philanthropy and Medicaid planning. Cathy Sikorski, Esquire gave the keynote presentation, “Can We Talk?” Sikorski, an elder law attorney, author and caregiver, gave a humorous but meaningful take on the benefits of professional collaboration.

“We’ve been at the forefront of elder law for over four decades, and we know how essential it is to stay up to date with the ever-changing landscape,” said Parker. “This year’s Professional Update highlighted the latest legal developments, trends, and strategies to help professionals better serve their clients.”

MPW also provides no-cost information to the community through its monthly series Open-Door Sessions. These free, in-person sessions provide community members with the chance to ask estate planning and elder law questions directly to Marshall, Parker & Weber’s Certified Elder Law Attorneys, offering expert guidance on issues that can often be overwhelming.

“At MPW, we believe that no one should have to navigate these topics alone. That’s why we’ve opened our doors to both the community and the professionals who serve them,” said Weber. “As the field of Elder Law continues to evolve, we want to ensure that people have the support they need to make informed decisions. These Open-Door Sessions are our way of giving back, as we’ve always done.”

Recent Florida graduate and Olympic alternate Leanne Wong is in action Saturday night at the 2025 U.S. Classic presented by Saatva. She’ll be a member of the second rotation group in the second senior women’s session between 8-10 p.m. ET.

Gymnastics fans can tune in on CNBC or using a Peacock account (free with ads). A recap of the senior women’s session will air on NBC Sunday between 4-6 p.m. ET.

Wong won three golds in the 2022 U.S. Classic, taking medals in all-around, balance beam and a share of the vault title. Following her Olympic run as an alternate last summer, Wong represented the United States in the Swiss Cup in Zurich. This will be Wong’s first major competition of 2025.

Leanne Wong at Florida

Wong is one of the best to pass through Florida’s gymnastics program. She earned 29 All-American honors (14 NCAA/5 WCGA Regular Season) and was All-SEC for each of her four years. In 2024, she was the NCAA uneven bars champion. She won the SEC balance beam championship in 2022 and 2023, and in 2025 she won the conference uneven bars championship.

Wong posted 10.0 in all four events at some point while with Florida. She did it five times on the bars, three times on the balance beam and twice on the floor. Her best all-around score was a 39.875, which happened twice.

Spotlight: Leanne Wong’s elite comeback and latest business venture: Inside the CEO gymnast’s next chapter

Three months ago, Leanne Wong’s NCAA gymnastics career came to a surprisingly anticlimactic end.

Wong and the Florida Gators were one of the favorites to win the NCAA team title. They had earned the first 198 score of the season in January and spent most of the season ranked in the top 5. Individually, Wong finished the regular season in the top 10 on every event except for floor and was the No. 2 all-arounder in the country.

But at nationals, one-tenth stood between the Gators and the Four on the Floor. Instead, the Missouri Tigers advanced to the program’s first NCAA gymnastics final, and a year after Wong won a share of the NCAA bars title, the Gators left with no individual titles either.

“It was an interesting experience. Obviously, wasn’t the best year as a team, or individually, but it’s okay,” Wong told Gymnastics Now earlier this week.

While her NCAA career as a gymnast has come to a close, Wong’s gymnastics journey isn’t over just yet. She’s staying on with the Gators as a student assistant coach for the 2026 season, and she’s making another elite comeback, starting with the U.S. Classic this weekend.

Next Up: 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships

The 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships are set for August 7-10 in New Orleans, Louisiana. National champions will be crowned across the men’s and women’s junior and senior artistic divisions, and national teams will be named.

For the women, this serves as the second-to-last meet that will be used to evaluate candidates for the 2025 World Championships team, with athletes being invited to the World Team Selection Event, set for September 29 – October 2, after the conclusion of championships. Worlds will take place October 19-25 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The U.S. women’s 2025 World Championships team will consist of up to four athletes with a maximum of three athletes per event. This is an individual Worlds – as is the norm in the year following an Olympics – so there is no team event. In addition to the main team, up to two non-traveling alternates will be named.

Per the selection procedures, here is who will be invited to the selection event after championships:

“In addition to the top two (2) All Around athletes from the combined rank order of two days of competition at the 2025 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, the Athlete Selection Committee will invite a minimum of eight (8) additional athletes from among the competitors at the 2025 U.S. Gymnastics Championships and petitioned athletes to the World Team Selection Event, utilizing the discretionary criteria outlined in Section 5.”

At the conclusion of the selection event, the world team will be named. The highest scoring all-around athlete from the first day of competition at the selection event will automatically qualify to the team. The remaining three team members and up to two traveling alternates will be named using discretionary criteria after the second day of competition.

Former Kentucky high school and college soccer great will play for Lexington SC

Lexington Sporting Club’s women’s team is making a clear push to escape the bottom of its league.

On Friday, LSC announced the signing of last year’s USL Super League Player of the Year, midfielder Emina Ekic. The signing comes as Lexington Sporting Club resets its roster following a last-place finish in the first season of the Super League, during which Lexington lost 18 of its 28 matches and allowed the most goals (62) of any team in the league.

Ekic brings local star power to next season’s LSC roster.

Ekic is a Louisville native and a former college soccer star at Louisville from 2017-20. She was the first Louisville player to earn Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors (2020) and tallied 29 goals and 19 assists over her four-year career with the Cardinals.

Before that, Ekic was the 2015-16 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior at DuPont Manual High School.

Last season, Ekic starred in the Super League with the Spokane (Wash.) Zephyr. She led the team in goals (10) and earned a spot on the All-League First Team to go along with her player of the year nod.

“Bringing elite experience, hometown pride and a championship-level pedigree, Ekic adds immediate value to Lexington SC’s 2025-26 roster and strengthens the club’s foundation heading into its second season in the Gainbridge Super League,” a news release from LSC said.

Before her time in the Super League, Ekic was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League draft by Racing Louisville. Ekic appeared in 41 games over three seasons with Racing and scored three goals in regular season play for the club.

She spent some of the 2023 season, her last year with Racing, on loan with Melbourne City, a team in the top league of Australian women’s soccer. She tallied four goals and one assist before being sidelined with a lower leg injury for the rest of her time on loan. She signed a two-year contract with Melbourne before exercising a clause in her contract and joining Spokane.

Ekic appeared in 27 games and scored 12 goals with Melbourne, while also earning her first call-up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team while with the club. Internationally, she has played in UEFA Nations League and European Championship qualifying matches for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ekic isn’t the only fresh face on LSC’s new-look roster for next season.

She joins another reigning First Team All-League member, Addie McCain, who arrives at LSC via the highest transfer fee in Super League history. McCain spent last season with Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) United, starting all 30 games and scoring 10 goals.

Ekic, McCain and the rest of the roster will be playing under new head coach Masaki Hemmi, who joins LSC after a stint as the interim head coach of Chicago Stars in the NWSL.

LSC began preparation for the 2025-26 season with a 1-1 draw in a friendly match against Ekic’s former team, Racing Louisville, last week.

Lexington will begin the Super League season against McCain’s former team, Fort Lauderdale, on Aug. 23.

New coach of Lexington’s pro women’s soccer team plans to construct ‘a fortress’
