Sometimes, you just want to get away. You need a fresh start: new people, new scenery, and new opportunities. Forget cities that never sleep and work days that never end. At the Tuck School of Business, you can slow down and savor the experience.

Picture an Ivy League school where MBAs are the focal point – all the faculty time and school resources are invested in them – no pesky undergrads clogging the halls. Alas, Tuck is not a place for MBAs to play Henry David Thoreau and hide away for two years to just reflect. Being a “Tuckie” – the name for Tuck MBAs – is a 24×7 experience, says ’24 alum Ta-Von Wilson. Due to its small class sizes and tight-knit culture, Tuck is a business school where everyone must play leadership and supporting roles for the program to function. That’s why Tuck is referred to as an “all-in” MBA. That’s exactly what Kayla Hergott Heiny experienced as a first-year student.

“Everyone is at Tuck because they want to be here,” she observes. “This intentionality creates an invested and highly engaged community that wants to experience everything Tuck offers for the two years they are here. Weekends are devoted to camaraderie and creating memories together in Hanover, whether it is attending “Tucktoberfest” or dancing with hundreds of your classmates while jamming out to Tuck’s class bands.”

A HOCKEY CULTURE

The all-in expectation is further rooted in choosing Tuck. Hergott Heiny’s classmate, James Lewis, points to the fact that all Tuckies are foregoing city life – with Boston being over two hours away – and “starting from scratch.” That creates a common bond from the start. Even more, it reflects a common purpose: Tuckies come to Hanover to be part of a community and contribute, says first-year Ryan Montgomery. It is a self-selection process for MBAs looking for an Ivy League education with a specific identity.

At Tuck, that means more than embracing all things Tuck: Small group dinners, ski weekends, and fall hikes. It also entails taking risks. Lauren Baltrus, a ’24 grad, frames Tuck this way: “[A] paradoxical feeling of being both out of my comfort zone and yet extremely comfortable at the same time.” That can be illustrated in what is the school’s most hallowed tradition: Tripod hockey. Think of it as a hockey league for MBAs who “use their hockey stick as a third leg,” in the words of first-year Ricardo Torres-Garzon, a Miami native. Like the NHL, Tuck teams adopt names like Blades and Confused and Shake It Off(side) and even hold a player draft attended by students and alumni alike. Held during the fall and winter, Tripod Hockey is a way for students to bond by doing something they would normally shy away from out outside Hanover.

“Many students—some of whom have never seen snow before, let alone ice skated—are playing ice hockey,” adds Ryan Montgomery. “Tripod makes for fun, silly moments that will be unforgettable during our time here at Tuck (or perhaps it will be our shared trauma of falling on the ice). Jokes aside, it is very fun.”

ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO

Since arriving in Hanover last year, Madelyn Flores has discovered that time moves differently “in the woods.” Here, she can take walks around nature, a “environment to reflect on my experiences and process them in a deeper way.” While the Tuck curriculum and culture has been honed by 125 years of business students, the surroundings are equally central – or intentional – to the MBA experience.

“My favorite part of living in Hanover is the access to the mountains and the intentional lifestyle that the Upper Valley encourages,” explains Kayla Hergott Heiny. “I am looking forward to hiking many of the 48, 4000-plus foot mountains with my husband (who is also a Tuckie!) and our two dogs while we live here!”

What is Hanover like for MBAs? Think four seasons, hiking and cycling along the Appalachian Trail or kayaking in the nearby Connecticut River. It is one of those rare locales, says Brooke VanRosendael, where student can take a class and then “hit the slopes” for the rest of the day. This “anything and everything outdoors” milieu was fundamental to Ignacia Ulloa Peters choosing Tuck.

“During our summer term, we spent most days swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and standup paddling on the Connecticut River. As soon as the leaves started turning, I bought a used gravel bike and have been using it to explore the fall foliage across the Upper Valley and joined some Tuck Community Rides—an opportunity to spend time with classmates, professors, and Tuck staff outside of daily academics. With winter around the corner, I plan to spend as much time as possible skiing.”

WHERE EVERYONE KNOWS YOUR NAME

Among Tuck alumni, you won’t hear much about Tuck being too out-of-the-way. In fact, ’24 grad Lauren Baltrus would say that school is situated just perfect. “Hanover is quaint and cozy, embodying the essence of small-town charm with all the essentials one could need. But I find that the best part of Hanover is actually its close proximity to other towns. Its location right on the border of Vermont makes it accessible to many weekend getaway destinations across New England (and even Canada!). These weekend trips have become a cherished part of my Tuck experience. Whether it’s skiing in the many mountains across New Hampshire and Vermont, dining at renowned restaurants in small towns throughout Vermont and Portland, Maine, or even venturing into Canada for the first time, these experiences have made me gain an appreciation for rural New England!”

In fact, Ta-Von Wilson jokes that Hanover is a place where he could enter a coffee shop or restaurant and “everyone knows my name.” It was an experience that Wilson’s classmate, Fresia Blanco, also enjoyed. “I love that you quickly feel like a local in Hanover—I often run into classmates at the local coffee shops and say hello to professors in town that are walking their dogs or enjoying time with their kids. I never thought I’d love living in a small town so much!”

STRONG FOOTPRINT IN PUBLIC SERVICE

Over the past year, the Class of 2026 has adjusted quite nicely to their new digs. The class includes students like Brooke VanRosendael, a former U.S. Army Reserve commander and jumpmaster who most recently worked as a consulting manager at PwC. Her classmate, Nicholas Mut-Tracy, is pursuing an MPA at Harvard University alongside his Tuck MBA. Before business school Mut-Tracy earned a Presidential Management Fellowships with both the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

“Some of our greatest accomplishments included negotiating a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Chilean governments and achieving diplomatic milestones with Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. Likewise, as the Department of Defense’s policy lead for Colombia, I managed the United States’ defense relationship with a critical partner during a period of geopolitical volatility…I also met presidents and worked with foreign ministers, ambassadors, and chiefs of defense—all incredibly humbling experiences.”

Ignacia Ulloa Peters also operated in DC before business school, including three years with the Atlantic Council, a nonpartisan think tank. “Before Tuck, I worked in foreign policy in Washington D.C. During my time there, I got the chance to experience impact on a micro and macro level, both within the United States and across Latin America and the Caribbean. One of my biggest accomplishments to-date was seeing research we produced be cited by Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs during a public meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.”

PRO ATHLETE AMONG ENGINEERS AND INVESTMENT BANKERS

Jason Gaines, who holds a doctor of pharmacy degree, spent six years at medical powerhouse Eli Lilly as an associate director in business development. Kayla Hergott Heiny has visited 49 of 50 American states – not to mention 47 national parks. She also holds a master’s in Engineering Management and has most recently led product launches in the medical technology field. Alexa Stewart brings over five years of experience from L’Oréal and Northrup Grumman to her classmates (along with internships at Amazon and Michelin). Not only did James Lewis spend time at Johns Hopkins University in research, but came back to lecture for a political dissidents course. After growing up in rural, poverty-stricken South Africa, Nelo Thembeka Mnguni became an investment banking powerhouse.

“One project especially meaningful to me was the $300 million modernization of the border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, which involved a partnership with the government and other financial institutions. Before the project’s completion, four people tragically lost their lives waiting to cross the border in December 2020. I strongly believe that no one’s life should be at risk due to inadequate infrastructure. Working on projects like these aligns with my core values of creating measurable impact, and I aspire to continue making a difference on an even larger scale.”

At the same time, Ryan Montgomery has been able to find balance between his career as a DEI strategy and brand consultant and his commitments as a professional trail ultra-marathoner. “Aside from athletic accolades, I have worked hard to bring my business skills to the table with my athlete partners. This has created meaningful partnership work that goes beyond being “an athlete for a brand.” For example, I have worked with my partners to do content shoots in other countries, event marketing strategy, and diversity and equity strategy. These experiences and work projects are something I have uniquely built from my athlete partnerships.”

ALUMNI PAY IT FORWARD

According to Tuck admissions, the school seeks out students who are encouraging, collaborative, and empathetic – or to borrow a popular campus phrase, “Tuck Nice.” Think of Tuck Nice as a Midwestern pleasantness with backbone, a sense of looking out for each other while still expecting the best from each other.  Or, to quote Brooke VanRosendael, Tuckies have a knack “for making [people] feel truly at home.” The Tuck ethos, says Jason Gaines, is to “always lend a helping hand.” One example of this, says ’24 alum Ben Marshall, is Tuck’s SafeTides program.

“The Upper Valley has no Uber and limited public transport, so there are lots of events which would be inconvenient or off limits, especially for students living off campus. We get around that through SafeRides, a system where Tuckies pair up and volunteer to drive their classmates to/from events on Thursdays through Saturdays. They only get paid in gratitude, but it’s a great experience on both sides. It’s also a prime example of the generosity and “all in this together” spirit of Tuck students.”

This sense of togetherness started early for the Class of 2026, adds James Lewis. “After only a week or two on campus, someone mentioned in our entire class group chat that there was a rodeo going on about an hour away in Vermont. One hundred people responded that they were interested, so that same afternoon someone else called a few bus companies. The next day we had two school buses booked to drive us all there. It really set the tone for how students here strive to bring everyone together. This kind of thing happens all the time at Tuck. Whether it’s organizing parties, hiking trips, or apple picking, students are constantly creating opportunities to connect with one another and explore the Upper Valley.”

And it isn’t just students who’ve bought into this level of engagement. Look no further than alumni, with over 500 graduates streaming back to Hanover to recruit or be part of classes. And alumni show up financially too. After Tuck completed its Tuck Difference campaign in 2023, it reported that 81% of alumni made gifts – more than double the usual rate at most business schools. At the same time, the campaign attracted $416 million – far more than its $250 million goal. That doesn’t even count the $37.5 Million gift it raked in last year from Glenn Britt, a former CEO of Time Warner Cable.

“The MBA class is fairly small, with just about 300 people—it’s not that hard to connect with most people over time, and everyone seeks out those connections,” observes Salman Kazrooni, a Bahrain native who last worked in investment banking. “You also see this accessibility stretching to the alumni. Tuck has a wide reach when it comes to alumni—there’s always a Tuckie who’s doing something you’re excited about and, for the most part, they’re always ready to help. The response rate for any outreach I’ve done so far has been close to 100 percent.”

A CLASS PROFILE

By the numbers, the Class of 2026 represents some high marks for Tuck. For one, the school reported a 36% increase in applications over the 2023-2024 admissions cycle. In fact, its 2,734 applications achieved an all-time high, with the school accepting just 31.2% of applicants. As a whole, the class GMAT average – 727 – inched up a point over the previous year. All the while, the class Verbal and GRE scores held steady at 161 in both cases, as the undergraduate GPA average notably improved from 3.49 to 3.6.

Like the previous class, the first-year consists of 41% women, while underrepresented minorities account for a 15% share. The class hails from 41 countries, with 30% of the class coming from outside the United Staes. First generation students make up 15% of the class, with another 7% identifying as LGBTQ+. Another third of the class brought their partners to Hanover.

Together, the 296-member class has attended 178 undergraduate institutions and worked for 231 employers. The class carries a strong liberal arts flavor, with 45% of the class majoring in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. 26% of the class hold undergraduate degrees in Business, while another 26% come from STEM. As professionals, the largest segment – 25% – last worked in Consulting. Financial Services (23%), Technology (13%), and Nonprofit and Government (10%) also boast 10% shares.

DANBURY, Conn.—ECAC Hockey announced the conference schedule for the 2025-26 season on Wednesday. Dartmouth men’s hockey opens ECAC Hockey play at home and ends the regular season with an ECAC weekend at home.

The Big Green play their first ECAC game on Friday Nov. 7 as Colgate travels to Thompson Arena. Opening weekend closes with the Big Red of Cornell taking on Dartmouth.

Dartmouth then travels to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence and Clarkson in the first road ECAC Hockey weekend starting on Friday Nov. 14. The Big Green return to Thompson on Dec. 5-6 for the final ECAC weekend of 2025 as Brown and Yale make the trip to Hanover.

The Big Green open 2026 with a trip to Princeton on Jan. 2 before traveling to Quinnipiac the next day to close the weekend.

Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena for three straight home ECAC games on Jan. 9, Jan. 16, and Jan. 17 against Harvard, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence.

Following the homestand, the Big Green travel to Cornell and Colgate on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24. Union and RPI then travel to Hanover to close out the month January on the 30th and 31st.

The Big Green hit the road for five straight games to open February starting on Feb. 6 against Harvard. The Big Green then take on Yale and Brown on Feb. 13 and 14 in New Haven and Providence. On Friday, February 20 the Big Green take RPI to start the final road weekend of the regular season, Dartmouth takes on Union on Feb. 21 in the final road game of the regular season.

Dartmouth will be at home for the final weekend of the regular season against Quinnipiac on Feb. 27 and Princeton on Feb. 28.

The Big Green are coming off a historic season in 2024-25 as they captured the first outright Ivy League title since the 1979-80 season. Dartmouth returns 19 players for the 2025-26 schedule including top scorers CJ Foley and Nikita Nikora

BEDMINSTER, N.J. – There is confidence from Great Schiano that the recent House v. NCAA settlement will bring some much-needed structure to the NIL space. The Rutgers football head coach believes that there are still hurdles to clear, but at least there is now oversite to the process.

In short, the House v. NCAA settlement that was settled last week paves the way for college to pay athletes directly. And with Schiano having been on the record for a while in favor of college athletes receiving compensation, this is a good step for everyone according to the Rutgers head coach.

A big part of the settlement allows for a clearinghouse that will oversee Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) contracts for all NCAA athletes. Schiano called it “big news for everybody.”

”We were instructed to operate under those guidelines now for a while,” Schiano said on Monday prior to the start of his charity golf classic at Fiddler’s Elbow.

”So, you know, the bigger, bigger news would have been if it didn’t happen. There would have been a lot of people scrambling, right? So certainly, there’s a lot that still has to happen in a short, short amount of time. And when you look at the clearinghouse and then you look at the enforcement arm that is going to be in charge of the financial things, there’s so much that has to get done in a short amount of time.

”And I think it will be transitional. I think there’ll be some growing pains, but there’s always growing pains. You know, change is hard, but change is necessary. What my job is – is not to worry about the whole country. My job is to make sure that I know how to maneuver for Rutgers the best way possible. And that’s what I have my focus on. And that’s what our, my whole group of people in our organization, are focused on is how do we make this work best for Rutgers.”

The clearinghouse alluded to by Schiano is key to the settlement. Any third-party deal over $600 in NIL will go under the review of Deloitte, a multi-national firm that provides auditing and consulting services to many Fortune 500 companies.

According to the settlement, ”Deloitte will evaluate third-party NIL deals using a 12-factor analysis.” For Rutgers, this could be good news.

Not surprisingly, NIL has wandered far away from its originally intent, with athletes being paid huge sums of money through collectives. These deals often offer little in return to the collectives and are merely an extension of boosters who want to land top-tier recruits and players for their school.

A clearinghouse – and potential arbitration – could bring this a bit under control. It could bring competition back on the football side.

That doesn’t impact Schiano right now, who has been operating within the understanding of football’s cut of the $20.5 million revenue share. And while that number isn’t public knowledge, football is far and away the biggest generator of income within the athletic department.

With Rutgers looking for a new athletic director, the new hire could potentially change the revenue share cut for football. It would seem counterintuitive to do so, but in the here and now Schiano is focused on adapting the new model to his team.

”Well, look, things can change. Right? When leadership changes, things can change,” Schiano said.

”I’ve been operating under a set of guidelines that, at least for this year, has to stay consistent. But again, you know, I know my role. I’m the football coach, and that’s, that’s what I do. So I have to always advocate for our program, and then whatever the plan is, then I have to operate within that point. And right now, we know what the plan is for this year, and then from there, we’ll figure it all out. But again, I’m excited about the young men that we’re attracting to Rutgers.”

Fisk University To End Historic HBCU Gymnastics Program In 2026

Fisk University, the first historically Black college or university (HBCU) to launch a collegiate gymnastics team, has announced it will discontinue the program after the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Nashville-based university shared the news in a press release on June 6, stating the decision follows a review of how the sport aligns with Fisk’s broader athletic goals. Since gymnastics is not sanctioned by the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC), the program faced “considerable challenges to schedule competitions and build a robust recruiting pipeline,” according to the university.

Fisk Athletics Director Valencia Jordan said in the release, “While we are tremendously proud of the history our gymnastics team has made in just three years, we look forward to focusing on our conference-affiliated teams to strengthen our impact in the HBCU Athletic Conference. Fisk is grateful for the hard work, dedication and tenacity of its gymnasts, staff members and coaches who made this program possible.”

The program launched in January 2023 and quickly became a powerful symbol of representation for Black girls in a sport where diversity has long been lacking. Despite its short run, the team made a national impact. Gymnast Morgan Price, who recently transferred from Fisk to the University of Arkansas, made history in 2024 as the first athlete from an HBCU to win the all-around title at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships. She defended her title in 2025 and swept individual apparatus events that year, according to The Tennessean.

“It feels good because of the hard work that has been put in,” Price said in a Fisk press release in 2024. “Honestly, I didn’t know where I would place, but it was a pleasant surprise. I have heard from a lot of people so far. I am still trying to take all this in.”

Price, along with teammates Allie Berkley, Aliyah Reed-Hammon and Ciniah Rosby, earned first-team All-American honors for the 2025 season.

However, behind the scenes, the program struggled. The team dealt with resource limitations for training and travel,according to Sports Illustrated. Founding head coach Corrine Tarver left midseason in 2024 and is expected to take a new position on the East Coast.

The news comes at a time when HBCU gymnastics remains fragile. Talladega College shut down its program after one season. Wilberforce University debuted its team in 2025, marking only the third gymnastics program at an HBCU.

Fisk says it plans to support its student-athletes and staff during the transition and will celebrate the program’s accomplishments throughout the 2025-2026 season. 

While the team’s run may be coming to an end, its legacy lives on. For Black girls who saw themselves in the sport for the first time, Fisk gymnastics showed what was possible. It also raised questions about sustainability, funding and long-term investment in programs that break barriers. With its founding athletes expected to graduate in 2026, the team leaves behind more than trophies; it leaves behind a blueprint and a community that saw their reflection on the mat.

There’s no question I’ve written a version of this sentence before, but there are few coaches who have earned the benefit of the doubt like Kirby Smart.

Last season, Jalon Walker made 60 tackles and garnered second-team All-SEC recognition. Smael Mondon Jr. posted 57 stops, and they helped UGA both win a conference title and make the College Football Playoff.

Both of them are gone, and Georgia—well, it’s not concerned.

CJ Allen registered 76 tackles in 2024 as Raylen Wilson had a mini-breakout year with 47 takedowns (7.0 for loss) and Chris Cole chipped in 16 stops. As if that’s not enough, Justin Williams and newcomer Zayden Walker were 5-star signings. Georgia just needs one of them to contribute in a small role, barring injuries.

After more than a decade of creeping change and shifting winds in college sports, the biggest reshaping of the landscape arrived Friday.

Federal judge Claudia Wilken signed off on a settlement resolving three antitrust compensation cases brought against the NCAA. Now, schools will be allowed to pay athletes directly — rather than under the guise of name, image, and likeness (NIL) — as soon as next month.

Along with schools gaining the ability to share up to $20.5 million with athletes per year, the NCAA is on the hook for nearly $2.8 billion in back pay to former athletes — long barred from compensation for their athletic performance — over the next 10 years.

The football powerhouses in the Big Ten and SEC — and their massive television deals — have prompted much of the seismic shift in college athletics that resulted in this settlement. But the changes are felt throughout the NCAA, including in Massachusetts.

It’s particularly significant for Boston College and UMass, the state’s two institutions that compete in FBS, the highest level of college football, each of which has spent several months preparing for sweeping change after the deal was initially approved in October before a lengthy hold-up.

“It’s been a little bit of what we would call, ‘Hurry up and wait,’ ” said UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford. “I think it’s in some ways relief that it’s here, that we can move forward, that we can meet this moment.”

While athletes will still be able to earn money through the NIL deals that have taken over collegiate athletics, the ability to pay athletes directly is a monumental shift.

How universities will handle payments is the first question on the agenda, particularly at the state’s flagship university, which has to contend with the added wrinkle of public funding and the scrutiny that comes with it.

“You’re building the systems, the policies, the procedures, working with campus infrastructure,” Bamford said. “Our student-athletes aren’t employees, so they don’t fit into the HR model. You can’t pay through financial aid, because — you can pay scholarships and room and board and tuition and fees and things like that — but anything that’s rev share is above and beyond. So you’ve got to get the tax people, the Treasury people, the general counsel, to look at your agreement.“

While college football’s powerhouses are certain to max out the $20.5 million they can dole out to athletes, that likely won’t be the case at UMass — that number would represent close to 40 percent of the total operating budget of an athletic department such as UMass’s.

UMass, meanwhile, will be looking to spend between $6 million and $8 million in the first year and in the $10 million-$12 million range in the second, with the long-term goal to be spending around 60 percent of the cap.

“If we’re at 60 percent of whatever [the cap] continues to grow to, we’re probably in a really good, healthy Group of Five position,” Bamford said. “The MAC is not going to spend a ton of money, but we want to be where maybe some of the lower Big East, lower Power Fours are in basketball, and then in football.

“We want to be competitive with the Group of Five. I think we can be in the top, probably, 20 percent of the Group of Five in football with our number. So, you know, that’s certainly a goal.”

Another question is how schools will divide the money within their own department, with a lion’s share of the cash at FBS schools likely heading into football pockets. That’s an especially unique challenge at BC, which has to compete against some of college football’s best in the ACC, while its greatest success has come not on the field but on the ice.

The men’s hockey team boasts five national championships and reached the national title game again in 2024, while the women have made six Frozen Fours since 2010.

“We’re the only team in the ACC that has ice hockey,” James said. “So we’re going to continue to evolve under this new college athletics approach consistent with who we are as an institution, and part of that is recognizing the importance that ice hockey means to us at Boston College and as part of our athletic program.”

It’s possible the new rules could provide an opportunity to BC’s city rivals on the ice at Boston University and Northeastern — neither of which has a football team to fund — to gain some ground. The fourth member of the Beanpot quartet, Harvard, could be looking at a further slip among its rivals, as the Ivy League has opted out of revenue sharing, which Harvard confirmed to the Globe this week.

UMass, another Hockey East competitor, with its most recent national relevance coming through men’s hockey (a Frozen Four in 2019 and a national championship in 2021), will also skew more of its money toward hockey and what arguably remains the Minutemen’s biggest brand, men’s basketball.

The most common formula thrown around in recent months has been that schools will look to use around 75 percent of the money on football, 15 percent on men’s basketball, 5 percent on women’s basketball, and the remaining 5 percent elsewhere.

UMass, Bamford said, won’t be that high in football, with greater slices of the pie given to men’s and women’s basketball, as well as hockey.

“Over time, it’ll sort itself out,” Bamford said. “When you make the jump, the formula and the ratios and the percentages are a little bit skewed. But for instance, we’re going to fund, probably $2.5 million on our women’s sports just in scholarships alone.

”We’ve kind of let each coach determine how they want to do it and based on the budget. And I think our coaches are feeling like in talking to their peers, especially in the Group of Five, that we’re in a really strong spot.”

There are plenty of concerns to go around, from how new roster limits rules will affect walk-ons to the effects the settlement could have on Olympic sports, where collegiate athletic programs have long produced some of the nation’s best athletes without generating a lot of revenue in return.

For James, whose place as a Power Four AD means competing with the nation’s true powers, the primary concern is how schools are going to toe the line.

“I think my concerns would be … the enforcement,“ he said. “I think if everyone follows the rules of the settlement, I think it will put college athletics into a better place than it’s been in some time. With that said, I think there’s always opportunities for people to work around the intent of what has been put in place, whether it’s through the letter of the rule, or just something that they feel that they have to do in their best interest.

“And I would say that’s my biggest concern: How do we get everyone to support and embrace this and give college athletics a chance to grow in this whole new world?”

E! News previously reached out to Nancy Feldman and Boston University for comment but has not yet heard back, and neither party has publicly responded to Alex’s allegations.

But in learning that others said they had, and allegedly continue, to experience similar harassment—despite Nancy retiring from BU in 2022—Alex explained she knew “without a doubt” it was time to share her story.
