2 charged with stealing from youth sports program in east Alabama

CENTRE, Ala. (WBRC) – Two people are facing felony theft charges after an investigation into missing funds from a youth sports league.

David Akin and Beverly Akin, both of Centre, were indicted by a grand jury and, on Wednesday, arrested on first degree theft.

In late Sept., reports of funds missing from the Cherokee County Youth Football League were received by the Centre Police Department. A subsequent investigation led authorities to discover a substantial amount of money had been misappropriated.

A grand jury indicted the two in early Nov., leading to their arrests.
