Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa cleared by CAS in doping rules case

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa’s two-year ban in a doping rules case was annulled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday.

Known as Gabigol, he allegedly evaded a doping control in April 2023 while playing for Flamengo. He denied any wrongdoing. Brazil’s anti-doping tribunal imposed the suspension but CAS allowed Barbosa to continue playing while he appealed.

CAS, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, cleared Barbosa by unanimous decision.

“Two of the toughest years of my life, being unfairly accused for something I never did,” Barbosa said in a statement. “No prohibited substance was found, but they still wanted to punish me for an alleged attitude. Justice was done. But the wound stays.”

The 28-year-old Barbosa played in the Brazil team that won the 2016 Olympics gold medal in Rio de Janeiro. At age 19, he joined Inter Milan but returned to Brazil in 2019 and helped Rio-based Flamengo win two Copa Libertadores.

In January he signed with Cruzeiro.

Red Lodge Highlights

RED LODGE — Team roping’s reigning back-to-back world champions are at it again.

Tyler Wade and Wesley Thorp captured the 96th Home of Champions Rodeo lead Thursday night with a time of 4.4 seconds. Wade entered this Cowboy Christmas week No. 10 in the PRCA money standings while Thorp is No. 9.

Watch Thursday’s Round 2 action:

Wright brothers, Wade/Thorp, Kinsel among Red Lodge Round 2 stars

Current No. 1 team roping duo Tanner Tomlinson and Travis Graves missed their steer for a no-time in Thursday’s Round 2.

Three of Utah’s Wright brothers put on a show in saddle bronc riding. Nine-time world champion Stetson Wright shared an 85.5 ride with Rusty Wright, both currently splitting 4/5 at the rodeo. Ryder Wright, sitting No. 1 in the world, was right behind scoring 85.

Four-time barrel racing world champion Hailey Kinsel was out of the money with a time a 17.92. Surprisingly, this was only Kinsel’s second run at the Home of Champions Rodeo.

“Not because I didn’t want to, I just couldn’t draw up right,” she told MTN Sports. “I had entered, and entered, and entered and got drawn out of slack several times. So, I finally got a day where I could make it.

“The last time I was here (in 2018) was super special. I ran my horse, Sister … she won the rodeo by half a second.”

Kinsel, No. 5 in the PRCA’s world standings, is scheduled to ride in Livingston’s Fourth of July performance Friday.

R.C. Landingham firmly took control of the bareback lead spurring his way to 90 points on Brookman Rodeo’s Snake Bite.

Senator Justice Highlights West Virginia's Tax Revenue for Fiscal Year 2025

Senator Justice Highlights West Virginia's Tax Revenue for Fiscal Year 2025

WASHINGTON (WVDN) – Senator Jim Justice issued a statement following the release of West Virginia’s tax revenue for Fiscal Year 2025 showing over a quarter-billion-dollar surplus:

“When I first walked through the door as Governor, West Virginia was in serious trouble. Our budget was upside down. Most folks thought West Virginia couldn’t be saved, but I never bought into that. I knew this state was a diamond in the rough – we just needed to dig in and do the work.

I made West Virginia a promise, and now, as we close out the 2025 fiscal year with over $254 million in surplus tax collections, nobody can deny it – we turned this state around. We didn’t just predict this would happen – we knew it would happen because we built it.

My Administration locked arms with the Legislature and got it done. I told them from the beginning – all we needed was a leader of the band, and I was ready to lead. We pulled the rope in the same direction and got big wins across the finish line. We delivered the largest tax cut in state history. We jump-started the economy. We brought jobs back, and we built momentum West Virginia hasn’t seen before.

Now, the job is not done. There’s always more to do – but let me tell you, the West Virginia I inherited, and the West Virginia I left behind are night and day different. We went from being the butt of the joke to the envy of the world.

At the beginning of my term, it was easy to see despair across West Virginia – in the end, we saw unbelievable pride and true belief from many West Virginians. My hope looking forward is that the current Administration continues on this path, because with fiscal responsibility comes prosperity,” said Senator Jim Justice.
