Not only is the value on this prop exciting, but so is CP3’s matchup for the night. The San Antonio Spurs will take on the Chicago Bulls, who rank 3rd in pace and just 24th on defense.

Our projections forecast Turner to tally 26.4 PR against the Nets. Tonight, he will meet up with the Brooklyn Nets, who struggle with the sixth-worst defensive rating in the NBA. Turner has eclipsed 20.5 PR in 60.0% of his games against the bottom nine defenses in the league. It’s easy for Conley to be a non-factor on the scoring end when Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle are taking care of business. That all changes when the Minnesota Timberwolves square up against a great defense, one that is capable of taking away looks from Minnesota’s stars. CP3 is netting 9.2 dimes and exceeding 8.5 assists at a 66.7% clip when facing the 10 fastest teams in the league. That includes one outing against Chicago in which he dished out nine dimes in just 29 minutes.

Five of the best sports documentaries of all time (and where to watch them)

Here is a collection of the most exciting, nail-biting, emotional documentaries you’ll ever see.

The great thing about sports documentaries is that they can cover a huge, HUGE amount of events. Obviously, the stuff that immediately comes to mind are the huge sporting events from around the world, but if you think smaller, think more niche, there is very likely a fantastic documentary dealing with that event too.

Fascinated by deep-sea diving? A must-watch for you is The Deepest Breath. A lover of e-sports? Then you have to check out The King Of Kong. Looking for something completely left field but still super competitive? Spellbound is the one for you, set in the world of spelling bees.

Sports fans tend to follow more than just the games—news, stats, even things like betting offers often come up in the mix. These documentaries tap into that same wide interest, showing how deep the love for competition can go.

See what we mean? There is quite literally something for everyone. Whittling down that list to five of the best is tough, but these picks are tremendous, and some of the best movies ever made, not just under the banner of sports documentaries.

So on with our five picks, and where to watch them* right now:

Free Solo – Disney+

From the description alone, you would be forgiven for thinking this isn’t going to be THAT interesting a watch, as the documentary profiles rock climber Alex Honnold on his quest to perform the first-ever free solo climb of a route on El Capitan, a vertical rock formation found in Yosemite National Park in California. So you’ll have to trust us when we tell you this is one of the most edge-of-your-seat movies you’ll ever see, and it proved to be so impressive that it went on to win the Best Documentary Oscar back in 2019.

Murderball – rent on Apple TV

This documentary focuses on the intense rivalry between the American and Canadian wheelchair rugby teams in the run-up to the 2004 Paralympic Games taking place in Athens, Greece. We get to know the players and their families, who all talk openly and frankly about their injuries, personal lives, and the love of the game that has them all vying for the gold. This movie was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2006 Oscars, but lost out to March of the Penguins.

Icarus – Netflix

Some of the best documentaries are those that begin filming with something specific in mind – in this case, director Bryan Fogel wanted to expose the inadequacy of the procedures to catch athletes using performance-enhancing substances – but become something else over the course of the movie being made – here, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s investigation of doping in Russia led to the head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory to flee his country and become a whistleblower. Icarus went on to win the 2018 Best Documentary Feature Oscar.

Senna – Netflix

Arguably one of the best and most impactful documentaries not to even be nominated for an Oscar, this film tells the story of much-loved Brazilian motor-racing champion Ayrton Senna. Directed by Asif Kapadia (who went on to win an Oscar in 2016 for his Amy Winehouse documentary), it tells us about Senna’s life, death, and intimate rivalry with fellow driver Alain Prost through archival race footage and home video recorded by Senna’s friends and family.

When We Were Kings – Sky/NOW

Another Best Documentary Picture winner, focusing on the night of The Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. Betting offers on underdog Muhammad Ali were 4-1 against the then-unbeaten, heavy-hitting George Forman. It took director Leon Gast over 22 years to edit and finance before it could be released in 2006, when it was met with immediate critical acclaim, and the movie is still considered to be one of the best sports documentaries ever made.

TIMMINS – Athlete Chris Exel is a man of his word.

Ahead of the Special Olympics Provincial Summer Games, the 25-year-old said he wanted to bring gold medals back to the City with a Heart of Gold. He’s returning home with two golds and a bronze medal.

In soccer, the Timmins team also won the silver medal in their division.

Exel won first in the 50-metre race with a time of 7.91 seconds, and in shot put, his gold-medal winning throw was 8.53 metres. He took bronze in javelin, where he threw 16.78 metres.

This was the first time 25-year-old Exel competed at the provincial games, which were held July 10-13 in Brantford. The Special Olympics committee will let the athletes who are moving on to the 2026 nationals know later this year.

As for the next provincial games, those will be a little closer to home for Timmins athletes next time, with the event being held in North Bay.

UFC champion gives brutally honest opinion on the BMF title ahead of UFC 318 clash

Ever since the BMF title was introduced in the UFC, it has received both praise and criticism from fans and stars of the sport.

This coming Saturday in the UFC 318 main event, the BMF title will be on the line for just the fourth time in UFC history when Max Holloway takes on Dustin Poirier.

Holloway won the controversial strap with one of the most incredible knockouts in UFC history when he face-planted Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 last year.

With a win over ‘The Diamond’, Holloway will become the first fighter to successfully defend the strap as both Justin Gaethje and Jorge Masvidal failed to defend it.

Tom Aspinall gives brutally honest opinion on the BMF title

Ever since the BMF title was introduced in the UFC in 2019 it has received its criticism from the MMA fanbase because of the fact that it isn’t truly considered a ‘real’ title.

However, it is not just the fans that are critical of the title as current UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has shared his brutally honest thoughts about the strap.

“Do you want my honest opinion (on the title)? I mean, it’s a title but it’s not a world championship so what are we doing?” Aspinall began to explain on UFC on TNT.

“These guys don’t need a title, they’re two legends of the sport, look at the name value, even look at the rankings, look at the amount of fights they’ve got, look at the shorts they’re wearing, we don’t really need a title on the line, to be honest,” Aspinall continued.

Despite his incredible career in the UFC, Poirier has never been an undisputed champion and that is one of the reasons why he is retiring now, knowing the likelihood of that is over.

Max Holloway removed from rankings ahead of UFC 318

‘Blessed’ on the other hand had an incredible career at featherweight, prior to making his permanent move up to lightweight, and is one of the greatest in the division’s history.

And ahead of his UFC 318 BMF title defence at lightweight, Holloway found himself still ranked number one in the 145lb division which he claimed was ‘ridiculous’.

However, just days before his clash against Poirier in Louisiana, Holloway has been removed from the featherweight rankings after his pre-fight request.

Any Given Saturday Review

Netflix uncovered a gold mine with Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The success of that sports documentary spawned other subsequent series that followed golf, wrestlers, horse racing, NFL quarterbacks and wide receivers. Ahead of the 2025 college football season, SEC football is getting the Netflix treatment with Any Given Saturday.

Before the show arrives on Aug. 5, the fine folks at Netflix aired a screening of the first episode at SEC Media Days. Before I share how it all unfolded, I must make an admission.

I do not like sports documentaries that are a year or two old. A 30 for 30 about Marcus Dupree? Hell yes. Another “behind the scenes” look at something that I watched not that long ago? Don’t need it. I remember that game well. Why should I waste an hour of my time to see it with a cinematic view?

Despite my preconceived biases against this kind of show, I loved every minute of Any Given Saturday. Last Chance U and Hard Knocks served as a preseason football appetizer, and this SEC football show is much better.

Is Kentucky in the SEC Doc?

Yes! Great news, right? Not exactly.

The documentary crew was in Lexington for the week two matchup against South Carolina. We all remember how poorly that went. The good news is that it went so poorly, you might only see 90 seconds of the Wildcats getting dismembered by the Gamecocks. Kentucky is merely a footnote in the story arc for Shane Beamer‘s program.

In case that beatdown wasn’t bad enough, Beamer used it as a motivational tool. In Mark Stoops‘ postgame press conference, he said that Kentucky did not fight back when they got punched in the mouth. Beamer paraphrased: “That coach last week said his guys tapped out. Make this coach say the same thing today!”

Mark Stoops is giving Shane Beamer pregame speech fodder in front of the world on Netflix. That is clearly the worst part of the show for this Kentucky fan.

The Format for Any Given Saturday

In the premiere, LSU and South Carolina take center stage. Brian Kelly and Shane Beamer play right into the hands of the Any Given Saturday show runners.

The show opens with a barrage of F-bombs from Kelly. He is the son of a former political strategist who has lived a no-nonsense life, despite Kelly’s awkward attempts to be personable and relatable on camera. Meanwhile, Beamer is trying to live up to his famous father’s legacy by being the coach who hands out ‘atta-boys’ like they’re candy on Halloween.

Any Given Saturday highlights the dichotomous relationship between the two head coaches who start the season on very different paths. Kelly was slamming his hand on the table in his postgame press conference following another dramatic season-opening loss. South Carolina nearly stumbled in week one before riding high in a romp as a 10-point underdog on the road at Kentucky.

Those courses collide in week three. Williams-Brice Stadium was rocking for College GameDay and the fans were treated to a game that went to Banana Land and finished with a field goal in the final seconds. South Carolina-LSU was one of the greatest thrill rides of the 2024 regular season. This football nut wishes they would have truly opened the can of worms, but Any Given Saturday cut Garrett Nussmeier‘s pick-six that was called back by a penalty.

I can forgive omitting those finer details because the scenes from the sidelines were enthralling. That’s the beauty of Any Given Saturday. College football stadiums transform into coliseums of chaos. There is nothing else like it in America. The Netflix documentary puts you in the middle of it all in spectacular fashion, serving as an injection of enthusiasm that will test your patience ahead of the 2025 SEC football season.

A Few More Highlights from Any Given Saturday

Diego Pavia and DJ Lagway will get their time to shine later in the series. One can only hope that latter does not also come at Kentucky’s expense in The Swamp. The scenes from Vandy’s win over Alabama look incredible. My money is on that episode as the best in the series.

— “Waffle House is cursed,” according to Shane Beamer’s daughter. They had to quit attending the diner on a regular basis because it only brought more losses to South Carolina.

— Side characters will steal the show. We see the head coaches enough. I had no idea who “D-Mo” was on the Gamecocks’ staff, but now I try to live every day of my life with D-Mo energy.

Hey! I know him! There’s a lot of that in this show. Andy Staples serves as one of the primary narrators who gives a greater context behind the week-to-week narrative. He’s one of a few friends of the program who appear on the show, like Alyssa Lang and SEC Mike.

UFC 318 Fight Week

UFC 318 marks the return of the sport to New Orleans for the first time in 10 years.

The 14-bout fight card is headlined by one of Louisiana’s own, Dustin Poirier, who’s competing for the final time in his storied mixed martial arts career as he takes on an old rival and fellow fan favourite in Max Holloway.

“I’m going to lay the gloves down in Louisiana, where it all started for me,” Lafayette’s Poirier said earlier this year when the matchup was announced. “There’s not a better guy I could think to fight in my retirement fight. He’s a legend, former (undisputed) champion, current BMF champion, so we’re going to put on another war.”

  • Watch UFC 318 on Sportsnet+

Dustin Poirier will compete in his farewell fight against old rival Max Holloway for the BMF Title. Watch UFC 318 on Saturday, July 19 with prelim coverage beginning 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT, and pay-per-view main card starting at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.

    Purchase the event

Poirier’s one requirement for his retirement bout was “legends only” and since Justin Gaethje was uninterested in completing a trilogy that would break their tie — Poirier finished Gaethje in 2018 and Gaethje finished Poirier in 2023 — Holloway stepped up to the plate in an attempt to get some redemption.

Holloway made his UFC debut in 2012 as a short-notice replacement opponent at UFC 143. He was the youngest fighter on the UFC roster at the time, only 20 years old, and was submitted in the opening round by a 23-year-old Poirier in a featherweight bout.

Seven years later, Holloway stepped in against Poirier as an injury replacement once again. The pair competed for an interim lightweight title, with Poirier getting his hand raised by decision after five hard rounds that earned both men a Fight of the Night bonus.

Fast forward another six years to the present, and Holloway has now had a full training camp to prepare as he looks to avoid going 0-3 against his rival, while Poirier aims to end his career on a winning note.

No fighter in UFC history that has lost two bouts to an opponent and fought them a third time has won the trilogy match, but that’s exactly what Holloway will attempt to do at UFC 318.

It’s actually a familiar spot for Holloway, who could become the first fighter in UFC history to be swept in two separate trilogies if he loses to Poirier this weekend.

Holloway previously went 0-3 — with three five-round decision losses — against Alexander Volkanovski during their featherweight title trilogy.

Other UFC trilogies that were completely one-sided in their results were Tito Ortiz defeating Ken Shamrock thrice all via technical knockout, and Frankie Edgar topping B.J. Penn twice by decision in lightweight title fights and another time by TKO in a non-title featherweight contest.

Also, Charles Oliveira finished Nick Lentz three times in the UFC, although the first of those Oliveira wins was later changed to a no-contest when it was ruled he landed an illegal knee on Lentz before locking in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.

Even though both UFC 318 headliners are coming off losses, they were each against the elite of the elite in the sport.

Poirier’s most recent appearance was his Fight of the Night with Islam Makhachev at UFC 301 for the lightweight title 13-and-a-half months ago. Poirier pushed Makhachev to the limit, but was submitted midway through the final round.

Holloway, meanwhile, is moving back up to 155 pounds after losing to Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 when the 145-pound title was on the line. Holloway was knocked out for the first time in his career that night nine months ago.

Topuria and Makhachev are the No. 1 and No. 2 fighters, respectively, on the UFC’s official pound-for-pound rankings list.

Holloway and Poirier have represented the BMF style of fighting all throughout their careers, so it’s fitting they’re starring in the main event Saturday at Smoothie King Center.

The last time Holloway competed at lightweight was arguably his best performance to date when he defeated Gaethje at UFC 300 last year with one of the most dramatic finishes to a UFC fight ever.

Holloway had schooled Gaethje for nearly five full rounds before getting a literal last-second knockout to earn the UFC’s BMF Title – the organization’s belt that is supposed to represent the “Baddest Mother(expletive) in the game” based on fighting style.

There have been three official BMF Title matchups to date: Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz at UFC 241 in 2019 to win the inaugural belt before later being stripped of it when he announced his retirement in 2023, then Gaethje knocked out Poirier with a head kick at UFC 291 two years ago before Holloway took the belt from Gaethje with that epic finish at UFC 300.

One notable absence in New Orleans will be Joe Rogan, who won’t be on the commentary team.

Rogan typically is cageside for U.S.-based pay-per-view events, but he will be replaced by Paul Felder this week. Felder will work alongside Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier.

The last U.S.-based PPV card Rogan did not call was UFC 271 in in Houston in 2022 due to a scheduling conflict. It is unclear at the moment the specific reasons why Rogan won’t be doing commentary at UFC 318.

Here’s what else is happening during fight week…

Sportsnet’s Aaron Bronsteter is on site in New Orleans, so stay tuned to Sportsnet.ca for exclusive content and one-on-one fighter interviews.

July 16, Media Day: Official media events begin Wednesday when participating athletes will speak with gathered reporters.
