GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — A 43-year-old man is facing legal action after eluding a traffic stop and leading law enforcement on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle in Marion on Friday evening.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to pull over a stolen car near the intersection of West 22nd and South Washington streets at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 6.
Authorities reported that the vehicle was halted, but the driver disregarded the deputies’ orders to show his hands and exit the vehicle. Instead, the driver allegedly fled the scene, initiating a police chase.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office stated that the pursuit lasted 12 minutes, traveling from central Marion to south Marion, then east on 38th Street to Home Corner, moving into Home Avenue, and finally turning north onto Pennsylvania Avenue leading to State Road 18 East, concluding on 3500 East Montpelier Pike where the vehicle veered off the roadway.
Authorities noted that the suspect drove 1/4 mile through a farm field before crashing into wooded terrain and immobilizing the vehicle.
The individual was being sought in Ohio and was considered “armed and dangerous,” said the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Following a 49-minute standoff, officers reported that they employed the MRAP armored vehicle to safely approach the individual for a “physical apprehension.” At this point, the suspect voluntarily surrendered.
The vehicle involved, a gray 2010 Audi SUV, was reported stolen in Fort Wayne on Dec. 1.
The suspect faces preliminary charges including illegal possession or use of a legend drug, vehicle theft, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.
Authorities stated that the suspect’s bond was established at $15,000.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
“If you come to Grant County with intentions to commit crimes, be aware — we will have a place for you in the Grant County Jail,” Sheriff Del Garcia remarked. “Our deputies are committed to safeguarding our community, and we will hold criminals accountable for their actions.”
