FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade and for Caroline Shepherd, that’s exactly what she’s been doing.

Caroline said she planned on selling lemonade and donating the money to the Floyd County Animal Shelter and that’s when her grandfather stepped in to build her a stand.

She raised $200 for the shelter, and employees said they were shocked by the actions of a 9-year-old.

“She wasn’t thinking about herself, she wasn’t selfish at all, she just wanted to donate that all to the animals and that just warmed our hearts so incredibly much,” said Elexis Craft with the shelter. “I just want to say thank you so much for everything that you did for our shelter.”

Caroline plans to keep selling lemonade.

The next time will be on July 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at her home along North Arnold Ave in Prestonsburg.

This time money will go to help out youth sports programs in the area. The lemonade is free, but donations are appreciated.

Quality Success Services said they are matching the $200 Caroline raised, and are donating it to the shelter.
