The 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series continues at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, May 31, with qualifying up first ahead of the Tennessee Lottery 250.
This weekend’s race takes place just days after an exciting event at Charlotte in which Cup Series star William Byron ran out as the winner.
That, combined with Kyle Larson’s win at Texas earlier this month, means that only Cup Series drivers have won an Xfinity Series race so far in the month of May.
With just this weekend’s race to go, it will certainly be exciting to watch who comes out on top on this occasion, particularly with another Cup Series driver in Ross Chastain competing this weekend.
In terms of the Xfinity Series standings, heading to Nashville, Justin Allgaier continues to lead the way, with the No. 7 driver holding a 72-point advantage over his closest rival, Austin Hill, at present. Elsewhere, Sam Mayer, Jesse Love and Brandon Jones round out the current top five.
With that said, let’s take a look at all of the timing and TV details you need to know ahead of Saturday’s qualifying session.

As we do every week, we’re bringing our NASCAR questions to the experts: Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi. We’re getting the scoop on the latest charter drama involving Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing, predictions for the In-Season Challenge and whether anyone can beat Shane van Gisbergen on a road course these days.
Take it away, guys!

NASCAR Cup Series at Sonoma Q&A
Round 2 of the Challenge at Chicago was Round 2 of the upset circus! Heading into the third round at Sonoma, who is in the best spot of the remaining drivers? Which matchups do you like the most? Let’s get your updated picks!
Jeff: Hey, my bracket challenge winner (Tyler Reddick) is still alive in this thing. And I correctly called John Hunter Nemechek in the Elite Eight. But aside from that, my bracket has been a disaster like most others. Anyway, the matchups are largely unexciting given most of the drivers have no history or rivalry together (Ryan Preece vs. Tyler Reddick? Ty Dillon and Alex Bowman?). But there is a fun one: Legacy Motor Club teammates Erik Jones and Nemechek. I’ve got Bowman over Dillon and Nemechek over Jones, then Reddick over Preece and Ty Gibbs over Zane Smith. Next week at Dover, it’s Bowman over Nemechek and Reddick over Gibbs, setting up a Bowman/Reddick final at Indianapolis (where Reddick wins, as I had all along. Ha!).
Jordan: Of the eight matchups last week, I correctly picked six winners (Bowman, Nemechek, Jones, Preece, Reddick and Gibbs). So, considering how tumultuous this tournament has been, I’m going to go ahead and pat myself on the back. But this week is going to be a challenging one as several of the drivers left don’t have a strong record at Sonoma. Here are my picks: Dillon continues his Cinderella, Florida Gulf Coast-esque run by knocking out the heavily favored Bowman; Nemechek over Jones; Reddick over Preece and Gibbs over Smith.
Let’s talk about the Chicago race winner, Shane van Gisbergen (SVG). I asked a few weeks ago about the seeming proliferation of road or street courses on the NASCAR schedule (which you can tell me if that’s actually an outlier historically). If this seeming trend continues, what do teams and/or drivers need to do to get more people dominant on this style of course? Surely they’re not just going to let SVG keep running roughshod over the field!
Jeff: Just like it’s tough for SVG to catch up with the rest of the field on ovals, it’s also tough for the other drivers to catch up to him on road courses. He’s a three-time champion in Australia’s Supercars series and won 80 races there — all on non-ovals (they only race road and street courses) and while driving a car that is a distant cousin of the Cup Series’ Next Gen car. Even if they’re different enough, they’re still more similar to NASCAR than open-wheel cars, which is why I think we’ve seen SVG have so much success right away. He simply has done this longer and better than anyone else he’s competing against, and it shows. I don’t know how you easily overcome that — but the fastest car doesn’t always win these races, either.
Jordan: SVG is on an incredible run right now, and while he certainly could continue to run roughshod over the field on the road courses, it’s also just as likely that the field catches up to him. Let’s remember that not too long ago, Chase Elliott was winning with great frequency on road courses, and NASCAR switched to a new car; the field caught up, and Elliott hasn’t won on a road course since July 2021. And let’s also keep in mind that van Gisbergen’s two wins this year, Mexico City and Chicago, are on two tracks where his competition has little experience, which gives him a further advantage. But on road courses like Circuit of the Americas and Watkins Glen, where the field has plenty of laps, van Gisbergen was anything but infallible. This is a long way of saying that, yes, van Gisbergen is the driver to beat anytime NASCAR visits a road course, but it is by no means any sort of guarantee he wins.
Jeff wrote a really helpful explainer on the situation with 23XI and Front Row facing potential loss of their charters — the biggest immediate impact is that Tyler Reddick could become a free agent?! In your article, you said, “Whether you think it sounds unrealistic or not…” But do YOU think this sounds realistic or not? Who would be most likely to snap him up in that hypothetical?
Jeff: While a lot of things would have to happen, you certainly can’t outright dismiss it, and I would bet a couple of teams are sniffing around already. Aside from angering Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan, what’s the risk in trying to lure Reddick away? You might not get this good of a shot at a top free agent for years. But teams would have to clear room for him, which is also a risk — if you try to get Reddick but fail, and word gets around to your driver that you were trying to hire someone else for his ride? Awkward. Maybe it’s worth it, though, if a team is underperforming. As I mentioned in that piece linked above, I could see Spire Motorsports taking a swing with Justin Haley on a very hot seat.
Jordan: Over the past several weeks, I’ve spoken to a multitude of team decision-makers about this exact scenario, and every single one of them noted how they were keeping a close eye on Reddick’s status, with several even saying they would pursue signing him should the opportunity present itself. Well, that opportunity may soon be on the horizon and if so, expect teams to go all-in on signing the talented driver who nearly won the championship a year ago.
Back to racing: Who do you like to win at Sonoma? Who’s getting that wine?
Jeff: I said Ty Gibbs would win Chicago after his strong Mexico City performance, but he came up one spot short. Gibbs has now hung with SVG in the last two road course races and looks terrific on those types of tracks. I’ll stick with him to get his first career victory this weekend and pull the upset on SVG (although it’s not THAT much of an upset since he has the fifth-best odds).
Jordan: Kyle Larson is due for one of those races where he leads the most laps, sweeps the stage and wins going away. And Sonoma is a good place for this to occur. He’s won two of the past four races, and his average starting position in 10 Sonoma starts is 3.8 — read that again, 3.8. Larson wins on Sunday, scoring what would be a series-best fourth win of 2025.
Do you have a long shot you like?
Jeff: Wow, I think the oddsmakers are really putting themselves at risk for a big payout with Chase Briscoe at +4000. Briscoe has been the third-fastest car on road courses this season, according to Auto Racing Analytics, and he also had the third-fastest car at Chicago behind SVG and Michael McDowell. I don’t think it’s far-fetched at all to think Briscoe could win at a place where his crew chief, James Small, and the No. 19 won just two years ago.
Jordan: Ross Chastain has the second-best average (12.4), trailing only Chase Elliott (11.1), and has four top-10 finishes in five career Sonoma starts. And with Chastain listed at +3000 on some boards, he definitely qualifies as a great sleeper pick this weekend.

2025 Sonoma NASCAR odds, picks, props: Expert who nailed 17 winners targeting 80-1 longshot
Shane van Gisbergen will look to make it two wins in a row on a road course when he takes part in the third leg of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge at the 2025 Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on Sunday. He won last week’s Cup Series Grant Park 165 and the […]

Shane van Gisbergen will look to make it two wins in a row on a road course when he takes part in the third leg of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge at the 2025 Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., on Sunday. He won last week’s Cup Series Grant Park 165 and the Xfinity Series race in Chicago, both from the pole position. No other driver has won races in NASCAR’s top two divisions from the pole on the same weekend. His Cup Series performance was dominant as he led for 26 laps en route to the win.
Van Gisbergen is the +140 favorite, with Kyle Larson at +600, Michael McDowell at +1000 and Chase Elliott at +1200 in the latest 2025 Save Mart 350 in Sonoma odds, from DraftKings Sportsbook. Sunday’s race is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. ET. Before making any 2025 Save Mart 350 in Sonoma picks or NASCAR predictions, you need to see what NASCAR insider Steven Taranto has to say.
Taranto, who moonlights as a sim racer and has 20 career wins in iRacing, is the lead NASCAR writer for CBSSports.com. He has an annual NASCAR media credential and also publishes a popular weekly NASCAR predictions column, famously calling Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez’s breakthrough wins in 2022.
Taranto was red-hot for SportsLine in 2024 as he nailed 17 winners, including 16-1 longshot William Byron at the Daytona 500 and 14-1 longshot Chase Elliott at Texas. He correctly picked the Straight Talk Wireless 400 winner in Larson on March 23. Anyone following his NASCAR picks at their favorite sportsbooks could have seen huge returns.
Now, Taranto has analyzed the starting lineup and odds for Sunday’s 2025 NASCAR Save Mart 350 in Sonoma . He’s only sharing his best bets at SportsLine. You can also use them to take advantage of the latest FanDuel promo code, DraftKings promo code or BetMGM promo code.
2025 NASCAR Save Mart 350 expert picks
For the 2025 Save Mart 350 in Sonoma, Taranto is high on road specialist van Gisbergen at +140. Van Gisbergen, who drives the No. 88 Chevrolet ZL1 for Trackhouse Racing, also drives part-time in the Xfinity Series.
“With all three of his Cup wins coming on road courses in a short period of time, SVG is already being discussed with the likes of Dan Gurney as being one of NASCAR’s best road racers ever,” Taranto said. “And he can add to his growing legend with another win this weekend at Sonoma.” See which other drivers he’s backing at SportsLine.
Top NASCAR props for Sonoma
Head-to-head: Taranto sees Ryan Preece (+175) finishing ahead of Tyler Reddick (-240). Although Preece has yet to finish in the top-10 at Sonoma, he has five top-10 finishes over the past eight Cup Series races. He was seventh a week ago at Chicago, and was eighth at Pocono last month. His best finish this season was at Las Vegas in March, when he placed third.
Reddick, meanwhile, is coming off back-to-back top-five finishes. He took fourth at Atlanta and third in Chicago. Prior to that stretch, however, Reddick struggled a bit, finishing 32nd at Pocono, 20th at Mexico City and 13th at Michigan. He has seven top-10 finishes in 2025. See all of Taranto’s picks at SportsLine.
How to make 2025 Save Mart 350 predictions
Taranto has also identified four other drivers in his 2025 NASCAR Save Mart 350 best bets. He’s also high on a huge NASCAR longshot who’s going off around 80-1, potentially netting any backer a huge payday. You can only see who they are here.

Shane van Gisbergen has won the last two Cup road course races and is the favorite to win his third race of the season, which would tie him with Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson for the most this year.
Bell and Larson certainly have shown good road course form before, though not necessarily during this summer stretch. Qualifying at Sonoma will be important, as will pit strategy as always at a road course.

Road shutdown for NASCAR race is beyond challenging

My thanks to the Tribune Editorial Board for acknowledging the disruption NASCAR causes for the 50,000 residents of the Loop (“NASCAR should have a future in Chicago — if it’s not held on Fourth of July weekend,” July 10). I live in Lake Shore East, and it is frustratingly difficult to get around while major roads are closed. I regularly travel on southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and during the days the southbound lanes are closed (from Randolph to McFetridge), I have to drive a circuitous route to 31st Street in order to get on the southbound drive.
As many as 155,000 motorists travel the drive every day, and all of those cars are forced off onto arterial roads. This is a maddening and illogical disruption. What event could possibly justify closing a major highway for days on end?
My beef is not with the people from NASCAR since they are simply doing what the city has allowed them to do. I have been in several community meetings with Julie Giese, the head of NASCAR Chicago, and she has consistently been responsive to input. My beef is with our mayor and my alderman who refuse to acknowledge how disruptive this event is for residents, workers, small business owners, visitors and travelers. Changing the date or demanding more money for the Park District is not going to change the basics — a street race does not belong in downtown Chicago.
Beginning in May and throughout the summer, major downtown roads are continually closed. When the roads opened after the Suenos music festival, they began closing for NASCAR. Now that roads are open after NASCAR, they will begin closing for Lollapalooza.
This is no way to run a downtown where 50,000-plus people live.
— Sue Connaughton, Chicago
No more NASCAR
While Chicago has seen some tourism benefits from our three years of NASCAR street races, the burden created by weeks of street closures, many rerouted buses and some businesses being unable to operate exceeds those benefits.
At least 18 bus routes experienced temporary changes due to NASCAR street closures, which has a disproportionate effect on heavily used South Side routes such as King Drive, Cottage Grove and Jeffery Jump. Passengers on those routes face significantly longer rides to and from downtown. All those extra buses on and near State Street create delays on streets where those buses are rerouted, affecting many additional bus routes.
Lane restrictions and delays on DuSable Lake Shore Drive make it harder for people who need to travel along the lakefront. Detoured car traffic has a major impact on State Street and adjacent streets. Too many people have their transportation disrupted and face significant delays and added stress due to NASCAR street closures. People are deprived of being able to use Grant Park for weeks of prime summer weather.
Crippling our downtown transportation network and access to the Museum Campus and Art Institute at peak tourist season makes no sense. Three years has been more than enough. No more NASCAR!
— Anne Alt, Chicago
The additional costs
Regarding last weekend’s NASCAR event, no one has commented on the environmental impact from what took place. Air quality downtown, already contaminated, is further damaged by the exhaust from the racing cars. Furthermore, do hotels and restaurants prosper while the city’s budgetary problems receive no help from this?
Also, in my opinion, this isn’t “entertainment” like musical presentations held in Grant Park.
— Fred J. Wittenberg, Evanston
Let 27th Ward vote
Ald. Walter Burnett has served the 27th Ward and the city of Chicago with distinction for about three decades. His leadership played a key role in the growth of the West Loop and in expanding affordable housing across the ward. If he steps into a new leadership role at the Chicago Housing Authority, it would mark the end of an era.
No one questions Burnett’s impact on this city. That’s what makes the reported push to install a successor — rather than let the voters decide — all the more disappointing. As recently confirmed by Mayor Brandon Johnson, he is actively considering Burnett for the CHA post, which would create a vacancy in the 27th Ward.
Chicagoans have seen how public trust can erode when political transitions are shaped by behind-the-scenes appointments instead of open elections. At a time when democracy feels fragile — nationally and locally — we should resist any appearance of political favoritism or nepotism, no matter who is involved.
This isn’t about any one family, community or individual. It’s about making sure the public — not political insiders — decides who represents them. If either of Burnett’s sons wishes to serve, they should absolutely be encouraged to run. But they should earn that seat the same way their father did: by winning the support of the voters, not by being installed to serve a mayor’s political agenda before the people have a chance to speak. We saw that with the appointment process in the 35th Ward.
Chicago has a chance to model democratic leadership — but that starts with letting the people of the 27th Ward choose their next alderman, not allowing City Hall to decide for them.
— Danny Goldberg, Chicago
Better for everyone
I have lived in Chicago just a year, having moved here from another state. My review is that this city is both wonderful and horrible. I cannot watch the news anymore to hear who was been shot the night before — every day. About the causes, figure it out and correct it, or at least tell me about positive things making a difference. Hearing about another Chicago politician going to prison for corruption would bring smiles in the state where I lived while we would shake our heads
On the wonderful side of this city, I love the diversity, I love the beauty, I love the people who are helpful and friendly, I read the Tribune every day and like the letters, and so much more. I love being here and want things to be better for everyone.
— Marilyn Sisk, Chicago
Aldermen out of touch
The June 29 editorial “Why Chicago has a restaurant crisis” is a fantastic piece with great timing. I directly oversee the sourcing, purchasing, distribution and sale of more than 250 million pounds of perishable food service products annually for a food service/retail company serving a customer base of 95% independent operators. Every single day, just like our customers, cost impact is reviewed, and outcome scenarios are simulated.
It should be expected that our elected officials have the diligence and capacity to do the same. These shallow policies and the sweeping support thereof further validate that the City Council is flooded with officials who have never set eyes on a balance sheet and believe that businesses are funded by magic.

Fried, on the other hand, is pitching Saturday afternoon against Chicago, and the turnaround time to pitch in the All-Star Game proved to be too much.\n\nRodón has come a long way since his forgettable first season with the Yankees in 2023. He dealt with injuries and struggled when he was able to pitch, posting a 6.85 ERA in 14 games. A low point came on Sept. 29, 2023, against the Royals in Rodón’s final game of the season. He allowed eight runs without retiring a batter. To make matters worse, Rodón turned his back on pitching coach Matt Blake during a mound visit, then later brushed past Boone after he was taken out of the game.\n\nSince that day, Rodón has become a workhorse for the Yankees and helped guide them to the World Series against the Dodgers last year. In the past two seasons, Rodón has won 25 games with a 3.70 ERA.\n\n“I think he has developed a really strong routine,” Boone said. “It starts in the winter with your workout and your throwing program. He is legit on that. … His routine is excellent. He is disciplined about it. His work ethic has been good. He has had the ability to evolve from a pitch-package standpoint. We have seen an evolved arsenal that has served him well. He’s an outstanding pitcher and an outstanding athlete saying, ‘Yeah, OK. I struggled. I failed.’ That’s part of Major League sports. You are going to get humbled at some point. How do you respond? It’s not about getting knocked down; It’s getting your ass up. He got his ass up. I’m super proud of him.””,”type”:”text”}],”relativeSiteUrl”:”/news/carlos-rodon-added-to-2025-al-all-star-roster”,”contentType”:”news”,”subHeadline”:null,”summary”:”NEW YORK — Yankees left-hander Manx Care saw high attendances at ED, MIU and MEDS during TT fortnight
The cost impact the Island’s motorsports events have on Manx Care will need to be resolved if health services are to be delivered on budget.
That’s from Manx Care Chief Executive Teresa Cope, who described motorsport-related activity as “an unfunded cost pressure” in the organisation’s latest board papers.
This year’s TT fortnight saw more than 2,000 attendances at the Emergency Department and Minor Injuries Unit, almost 1,500 calls to MEDS and more than 1,400 x-rays.
With almost 55,000 visitors recorded over the racing period, vice-chair Sarah Pinch says it’s a huge number of people potentially needing Manx Care’s services:
