AUSTIN, Texas – College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday morning that TCU beach volleyball standout Daniela Alvarez has been named to the CSC First Team Academic All-America Team.
 
Alvarez gets the nod as part of the At-Large division. The At-Large program allows institutions to nominate six nominees per gender per school in sports that do not already have CSC Academic Teams.
 
Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom.
 
Teams are announced and amplified by CSC member colleges, universities, and conferences on a wide local, regional, national and even international scope. Nominating and voting for Academic All-America is an exclusive right of College Sports Communicators members.
 
CSC began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 42,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
 
Alvarez has earned a flurry of awards after an uber-successful season. Most notably, she was named AVCA Collegiate Beach Player of the Year and earned All-America and All-Big 12 accolades following her 27-6 season. The 2024 Paris Olympian appeared in the No. 1 spot for the Horned Frogs in every match in 2025 and only suffered two losses in her final 20 matches of the season.
 
She was previously selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team in June alongside Ana Vergara. In the classroom, the Spaniard earned a 3.84 GPA.
 

For Texas women’s basketball junior Madison Booker, this summer didn’t mean slowing down.

Instead, the 6-foot-1 forward traveled to Santiago, Chile, to help Team USA win the gold at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup with a 92-84 victory over Brazil in Sunday’s championship game. 

The win marked her fourth gold medal with USA Basketball and her first on the senior AmeriCup stage.

“What a performance by our team,” Team USA coach Kara Lawson said after the championship. “Three weeks together and we capped it off the way we hoped — to win a gold medal.”

Booker logged 25 minutes in the final, finishing with seven points and five rebounds. Though she wasn’t the leading scorer, her rebounding, poise and defensive presence helped Team USA erase a halftime deficit of two points and hold Brazil off down the stretch.

Throughout the week, Booker carved out a consistent, steady role on a roster full of NCAA stars. In the semifinal against Canada, she posted 12 points to help her team pull away with a win. Against the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinal, she recorded 13 points, three assists and a tournament-high six steals, tying a USA AmeriCup record.

Her effort on both sides of the court showed in a group-stage matchup with Puerto Rico. With the game tied late in the second quarter, Booker sparked a 17-3 third-quarter run by scoring seven quick points. 

“I liked that we went into halftime and had to figure some things out. We had to regroup,” Lawson said. “The group that started that third quarter — and Maddie — was a big part of that.

In that game, Booker finished with nine points, five assists, three blocks and two steals in just 20 minutes — one of her most complete performances of the tournament.

“Like coach said, it was a test for us,” Booker said postgame. “(We) have to learn from this moment and grow as a team.”

The tournament featured 10 national teams from across the Americas, and Team USA finished undefeated at 7–0.

This victory is Booker’s fourth gold with USA Basketball, adding to her collection of previous titles from the U16 Americas Championship in 2021, the U17 World Cup in 2022 and the U19 World Cup in 2023. She also appeared in the 2023 Nike Hoop Summit in which she led all players in rebounding.

Booker now returns to Texas with another accolade under her belt. After earning Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and first team All-American honors as a sophomore, she’ll rejoin a Longhorn team that reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament in 2024 with championship expectations.

“First Team All-American and she’s as humble as American pie,” Texas head coach Vic Schaefer said in a June 9 interview with KVUE. “She’s just a great kid. Unbelievable parents raised her right — but I’ve got a whole team of that.”

Trott began last season by resetting her school record in the 10,000m at the 2025 Black and Gold Invitational with a time of 34:01.76. Her outstanding effort helped the women’s track and field team win at home for the second straight season and marked an incredible start for both herself and the Black and Gold.

Trott’s initial rise to prominence in the women’s 10K began at the 2024 Black and Gold Invitational, where she won the event with a time of 35:56.67. That mark narrowly surpassed Black’s previous record time of 35:56.94. Her performance also helped the women’s track and field team win the Black and Gold Invitational for the first time in program history. Trott continued to improve in the event over the course of her sophomore season, capping the year off with a silver medal at the 2024 America East Outdoor Championships after running 35:53.59.

The European Athletics U23 Championships were first introduced in 1997 to help athletes transition from the U20 level to senior competition. The 2025 Championships will begin on Thursday, July 17, and conclude on Sunday, July 20.

As a Design Program Management Intern at Adobe through the SAMI Program (Student-Athlete Micro Internship), Blair Jefferson had the incredible opportunity to gain real-world, hands-on experience in a corporate environment. She worked closely with her manager and team, and was able to learn, grow, and take ownership of her own project—an experience that has already made a lasting impact on her professional development.

“One of the most memorable highlights so far was attending the Adobe Intern Summit in California at the company’s headquarters,” said Jefferson. “It was an unforgettable experience filled with learning, inspiration, and a true sense of community. I even had the chance to connect with two amazing WSSU alumnae—my former teammate Olivia Stephens and Dominique Graves—which made the experience even more meaningful.”

“I’m extremely grateful to the SAMI Program, especially Travarus Fauntleroy and his team, for their continuous mentorship and support. I also want to thank Winston-Salem State University for opening this door and empowering student-athletes like me to thrive beyond the field.”

This journey has already been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to continue learning, contributing, and growing throughout the rest of the summer.
