In Mexico City, NASCAR has placed tire packs around the track at the apex of several corners, even adding another one after the first practice session. While drivers may use as much pavement as they want in some areas, such as the exit of the final corner, NASCAR wants to avoid drivers cutting corners.
They’ve also painted yellow lines through the esses, and crossing that line will result in a stop-and-go penalty at a designated location around the track. But the addition of tire packs is a welcomed one for most drivers, who would rather focus on avoiding those than having to worry about the painted lines on the track.
Wallace in favor of tire packs

“I think it is good for us,” said Bubba Wallace when Motorsport.com asked about the tire packs in a Friday press conference. “Us Cup drivers, we push to find the limits of the race cars and the race tracks, and it seems like we are always revamping the race tracks to meet the driver’s needs – like, well the track needs to be wider here for us. Slow down, slow down and we can make the corner.
“We are taking a race track and making it ‘Cup cars 2.0’ and it doesn’t make sense to me, so I was a big fan of the tire packs. It forces you to stay on the track limits and I spent the majority of my time on the sim, staying tidy and staying on the racing surface, and I think hopefully that pays dividends for when we get on track later. But I’m a big fan of the tire packs, keeping us on line and keeping us on the racing surface.”
NASCAR is also being cautious about placing tire packs in the faster sections of the track. They infamously put a tire pack at the exit of the original Charlotte Roval chicane, which several drivers (including Wallace) clobbered in ugly practice crashes. So far, the tire packs have caused no issues in Mexico City.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott was also asked by a different media outlet about track limits, noting how the tire barriers weren’t there when they practiced on the sim in preparation for this weekend.
“I ran laps (on the sim) where I was really aggressive running off the road and kind of taking advantage of different areas that I felt might be worth a little bit of time. But I would say the majority of laps that I ran, you know by choice, was just really staying inside the lines because I had a feeling that might be a little more of a reality,” said Elliott. “But, you know, there are some areas that I think you’ll take advantage of off the racetrack. I think the tire barriers have, especially through (turns) eight and nine or whatever numbers… I don’t know which track map you’re looking at, right, the numbers change. But the last two, that’s before you get to the stadium section, for clarity, the tire packs, where they’re located through that section, I think will significantly change how at least I was approaching that section in the sim.
“But … we have some practice to get some time on the track. I think everyone’s going to be super aggressive with taking every advantage that you can take and probably stepping over that line. And if you get caught, you’ll get caught, and you’ll learn what you can and can’t do. So my intention is to go and push the limits as far as I can push them. I’ll probably step over them, you know, at different points in time. And I want to know for sure what’s going to be called and what wasn’t.
Allgaier: “Any mistake can be a big mistake here”

Motorsport.com also asked reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier about the tire packs during his press conference appearance. The JR Motorsports driver said he and Michel Jourdain Jr. have been going over this very topic as he prepares for Saturday’s Xfinity race.
“For us, there are sections with track limits and there are sections without and I think it’s going to be interesting because we’re in a little bit of a moving target,” said Allgaier. “I think track limits can be relaxed or enforced harder based on how aggressive we are, and how much we’re trying to make in those sections. The tire packs, or the barriers that they’ve put in some of the different corners of the racetrack, I think are different than what I expected, until you see it and you feel it and understand it. I mean, even so, (even before making) a lap on track, I’m already changing my approach to a couple of different corners. That’s going to be something else that’s very interesting to me, is how do we race here? Where are the most effective passing zones?”
The tire packs also mean that drivers will have to be extra careful in minimizing mistakes as any off-road excursion could result in significant damage to the car.
“Any mistake can be a big mistake here,” noted Allgaier. “If you get off and you make a mistake, maybe other than turn one, it has the potential to be a big moment and damage to your car right so without really having the ability to go to a backup car, those are going to be important moments to not have, right.”

Crown Concepts, a premier performance automotive business based in Arizona, has announced the acquisition of Racing Equipment Sales (trading as Radical Arizona) and the signing of a full dealership agreement with Radical Motorsport, the global manufacturer of world-renowned purpose-built race cars.
The agreement solidifies Crown Concepts’ position as the Southwest’s leading destination for Radical sales, service, parts, engine rebuilds, and national-level racing support.

After two road course races, NASCAR heads to Dover Motor Speedway and its challenging 1-mile concrete oval. Moving from an April date to July is expected to bring higher temperatures to Delaware as drivers battle out the penultimate round of the In-Season Challenge.
A new Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup designed specifically for the Monster Mile’s ever-changing track surface awaits NASCAR Cup Series teams. The new tire has been designed to withstand the high speeds and high loads associated with racing at Dover, and won’t be used at any other track this season.
“Laying rubber down on the concrete surface is a key factor in the design of our tread compounds for Dover,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “While the track turns black as cars lay rubber down during green flag racing, the hot tires then pick up this same rubber when the track cools under cautions. Dover presents a unique opportunity to engineer a tire to help in laying down rubber on a particularly smooth surface, and we’ve designed the product to do just that.”
In contrast to the new Cup Series setup, NASCAR Xfinity Series teams will use familiar tires at Dover. This is the fourth consecutive race at Dover using this Xfinity Series tire setup, and both tires have already been used this season: the left-side tire five times so far and most recently at Pocono, and the right-side tire at Nashville. Unlike the Cup Series, Xfinity Series teams use inner liners on ovals 1-mile and longer, including Dover.

Vermont man loses $100K to NASCAR pro impersonator — what The Ramsey Show hosts suggest he do next to recover

In February 2024, Burlington resident Mark, 54, accepted a Facebook friend request from an impersonator claiming to be NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.
Over several weeks, the impersonator claimed that a “briefcase full of prize money” was stuck in customs and that his documentation for entering the United States had expired.
Trusting his new “friend,” Mark bought six $500 gift cards. When that didn’t free the briefcase, the scammer urged him to tap his savings.
Mark withdrew from his IBM 401(k) and took additional loans against a second 401(k) with GlobalFoundries. He sent funds by cashier’s check.
By the time doubts crept in, he had lost more than $100,000 in savings. It was only later that Mark realized he’d been duped.
Once he recognized the scam, Mark contacted the U.S. Secret Service, filed a complaint with the FBI and alerted multiple state and local agencies. Despite his efforts and the help of an attorney, law enforcement determined the funds were irretrievable.
“The chances of getting that money back are very, very, very slim.” John Deloney lamented.
Today, Mark’s 401(k) balance is $146,321 — down from an estimated $200,000 before the fraud. Earning $60,000 annually, he maintains a lean budget: $1,000 monthly rent (including utilities), $60 for phone service, $50 for internet and no credit-card debt and $22,000 in 401(k) loans.
“Somebody weaponized what I think is the most sacred thing, and that’s a relationship. And inside that relationship somebody asked you for help, and you’re the kind of guy that helps. And that hurts, man.”
Hosts George Kamel and John Delony laid out a disciplined recovery plan:
-
Build an emergency fund of three to six months’ expenses: Set aside a portion of each paycheck into a separate savings account until you’ve covered three to six months of living expenses to serve as a financial buffer against unexpected setbacks.
-
Eliminate loans: Mark can make small lifestyle sacrifices and redirect extra cash toward paying off his $22,000 in 401(k) loans more quickly. Deloney advised him to treat it as a “sweat tax” that would remind him to avoid risky online relationships in the future.
-
Invest 15 percent of your income back into retirement: Kamel advised Mark to contribute 15 percent of his $60,000 salary to his 401(k) over time. Done right, disciplined investing could help him build a $1 million nest egg for a dignified retirement.

The NASCAR Xfinity race at Dover will feature NASCAR Truck Series regular Rajah Caruth and rising star Jake Finch, who will be making his Xfinity Series debut.
On Monday, Hendrick Motorsports announced that they will enter the No. 17 Chevrolet with the 20-year-old Finch behind the wheel. Finch is a winner in the ARCA Menard’s Series, but has zero starts in any of the three national levels of the sport. Finch is also the son of former NASCAR team owner, James Finch, who operated Phoenix Racing in the Cup Series for over 20 years.
This will be the 12th Xfinity race HMS has entered this year. Kyle Larson and William Byron have both won with the No. 17 during the 2025 season, but the car has also featured Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and Corey Day.

But Finch’s HMS announcement wasn’t the only Xfinity news on Monday. Caruth, who drives for Spire Motorsports full-time in the Truck Series, will pilot the No. 32 Chevrolet for Jordan Anderson Racing at Dover.
Caruth is a proven winner in the Truck Series with a victory at Las Vegas in 2024, ending the year seventh in points. He won again at Nashville, earlier this year, once again locking himself into the playoffs.
Caruth also has 19 starts in the Xfinity Series, but none since the end of the 2023 season.
Like the HMS No. 17, JAR’s No. 32 car has also used a variety of drivers during the year, including Katherine Legge, Austin Green, and team owner Jordan Anderson. Its best result came at both Daytona and Mexico City, placing seventh.
The NASCAR Xfinity race at Dover will also see the NXS debut of ARCA driver Lavar Scott, which was previously announced.
