Ten new graduate certificates are available this fall to Blazers interested in continuing their education.The University of Alabama at Birmingham continues to enlarge its academic offerings for students year after year. This fall, Blazers can explore a range of new degree and certificate programs — available in both on-campus and online formats — to connect them with world-renowned faculty and researchers wherever they call home.

eSports Performance Management and Coaching
ESports is the intersection of traditional sports and video gaming and continues to rise in popularity as a high school and college sport. To help students prepare for the rapidly expanding field, the School of Education and Human Sciences developed a new undergraduate degree.
The Bachelor of Science in eSports Performance Management and Coaching is the first of its kind in the state of Alabama. Through this program, students will learn how to create training programs, support mental and physical health, and communicate with individual competitors or organized teams.
New undergraduate and graduate certificates
Ten new graduate certificates are now available from departments across UAB’s campus.
The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Anthropology is now accepting students for the Graduate Certificate in Cultural Resource Management of Archaeology. Students will learn critical skills to plan, promote and implement ways to preserve and protect cultural sites. The certificate includes on-campus courses on historical preservation and conservation, business management, public relations, history, historical archaeology, and environmental impacts.
Graduate students in the Master’s in Social Work program who may be interested in pursuing careers in the nonprofit sector can continue their education through the new Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management for Social Work Professionals.
The program focuses on the foundations of social work research in health and behavioral health, the impact and processes of establishing policies, and the management of nonprofit organizations at the local, national and global levels. The certificate can be taken 100 percent online or on-campus.
The School of Education and Human Sciences has two new certificates in eSports Performance Management and Coaching.
The Undergraduate Certificate in eSports Performance Management and Coaching will teach how to assess players’ strengths and weaknesses and prepare them for competition. Students can build their foundation with courses in eSports law and marketing to ensure they have a comprehensive understanding of managing teams. Delivery methods for the certificate include on-campus and 100 percent online.
The Graduate Certificate in eSports Performance Management and Coaching will help students develop skills in organizing, administering and managing eSports programs and teams. Students will receive instruction in business and financial management principles and in sales, marketing and recruitment strategies as they relate to the field of eSports. The certificate is offered 100 percent online.
The School of Health Professions is offering two new graduate certificates.
Implementation science has emerged as a dedicated field designed to bridge the gap between research and practice. The Graduate Certificate in Dissemination and Implementation Science in Health Care program covers fundamental topics such as terminology, conceptual models, frameworks and study designs and is offered 100 percent online.
The Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence in Health Services will help students gain a deeper understanding of how AI is impacting health care. The certificate prepares students to use and translate AI to support critical functions across the health care ecosystem, including providing care, administrative functions, data analytics and patient care. It is offered 100 percent online.
Through the new Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Innovation in the Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, students can combine their interests in medicine and business by learning to identify, evaluate and implement advancements and innovative technology within the health care industry. The program is designed to prepare current and future health care professionals to develop the critical innovation, business and leadership skills necessary to be successful in their future careers. The certificate requires 15 credit hours and is offered 100 percent online.
The School of Nursing has two new graduate certificate options.
The Graduate Certificate in Nurse Leadership in Population Health is a program for nurses who want to enhance their skills in the emerging field of population health. Courses will address topics of interest for roles in nursing leadership, community health initiatives, public health initiatives, disease management and prediction, school nursing, and pandemic/epidemic health responses. The certificate is offered 100 percent online.
The Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing is designed to prepare nurses with the knowledge to oversee emergency preparation and implement disaster management plans. Students will learn advanced knowledge and skills for evaluating and managing occupational health and safety programs, as well as learn the principles of toxicology, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, well-being, emergency management and disaster preparedness. The certificate is offered 100 percent online.
Students who want to learn about public health programs, policies and services for the maternal and child health population can do so through the School of Public Health’s Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership. Coursework will span health policy and organization, as well as health behavior and global health. Electives may include an exploration of reproductive health issues, perinatal health and mental health.
Looking ahead
The School of Nursing is now accepting students for a new graduate certificate coming in spring 2026. The Post-Graduate Certificate in Addictions Nursing will teach the latest skills and current guidance on treating patients whether they are adults or were exposed to substances in utero or as infants or children. The certificate will be offered 100 percent online.
