ROCHESTER, Minn. — The women’s swimming and diving squad from Minnesota State achieved numerous top-three placements during the opening day of the Rochester Invitational.

As a collective, Minnesota State stands in the lead of the team rankings after the first day with a total of 587 points. St. Cloud State follows closely in second at 576 points, while Augustana occupies the third position with 516 points.

Freshman Averi Larsen clinched first place in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:07.11, with fellow freshman Teresa Collingwood securing second place with a time of 2:08.10.

In the 50 freestyle, senior Maija Carriveau finished in second with a time of 23.74, while Larsen landed in fourth place with a finish of 23.81. Freshman Savannah Acker also achieved second place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.15.

Additionally, MSU secured second place in both relay events on the first day of the Rochester Invitational. In the 200 medley relay, the team of senior Abby Gronholz, Larsen, junior Claudia Schwartz, and graduate student Elise Mishmash finished second, completing the event in 1:43.83. The group comprising sophomore Ally Donagan, freshman Sydney Pippert, senior Kaylee Sivertsen, and graduate student Olivia Hudoba also came in second place in the 800 freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 7:40.06.

Donagan secured third place in the 500 freestyle event, recording a time of 5:07.88, while freshman Kaylie Gibbs claimed seventh with a finish of 5:12.93.

In the 3-meter diving competition, senior Aspen Warnygora was the top performer for the Mavericks, finishing third with a score of 413.40.

Minnesota State will continue its season on Friday with day two of the Rochester Invitational
