The ski and snowboarding season has officially started as enthusiasts take to the slopes at Blue Mountain Resort.

Lilian Bender, a 12-year-old from Emmaus, Pennsylvania, along with her mother, was part of an estimated 3,000 visitors who came out for the inaugural day. The lifts commenced operations at 9 a.m. on Friday.

“I’ve been snowboarding for four years, and it’s become a passion of mine,” Bender stated. “Snowboarding is something I truly enjoy.”

The opening day was delayed by a week due to warm temperatures in November. Both skiers and snowboarders were eager to tackle their initial runs.

“I got up at 6:30 this morning,” said Garrison Pate from York, Pennsylvania. “I couldn’t wait to get out here, and I’m thrilled to be here. It’s a blast.”

Blue Mountain is among several resorts in Pennsylvania that are open for the skiing season. The majority of the snow at Blue Mountain is artificially produced.

“It’s the best spot around,” claimed John Collins from Milltown, New Jersey. “It has the most vertical drops. The runs are long.”

Currently, skiers can access roughly 30% of the slopes. However, officials are optimistic about opening all 40 trails by the week of Christmas.

“We’re producing snow on one of our most favored trails, Razor’s Edge, and this is actually the earliest we’ve ever started making snow on it,” said Ashley Seier, the marketing director at Blue Mountain Resort. “So we’re definitely planning to have some of those beloved trails available sooner than ever.”

Bender hopes that her favorite trails will enjoy enhanced snow coverage this year thanks to Mother Nature.

“I believe there will be more snow compared to last year,” she remarked.

She remains hopeful for a fantastic winter season.
