WESTWOOD, Mass.  –  Today, the NEWMAC unveiled its final list of Academic All-Conference achievers for the Fall 2024 term. In total, 30 Coast Guard Academy cadet-athletes were recognized across men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball.

To be selected for these honors, athletes needed to meet the following requirements: maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or 4.35 on a 5.0 scale following the 2024 Spring semester; achieve second-year academic standing at their institution; and be an active member of their respective varsity team for the full season.

Seniors Brennan King (Shepherdstown, W.Va.) and Michael O’Brien (Mays Landing, N.J.) were recognized on the men’s soccer list alongside junior William McGowen (Springfield, Va.) and sophomores Kai Trager (San Clemente, Calif.), Michael Porter (Baltimore, Md.), and Jack Lopez (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.). On the women’s team, seniors Madelyn Greene (Chesapeake Beach, Md.), Emily Scharnitzky (Charleston, S.C.), Riley Vicinanzo (Vestavia Hills, Ala.), and Kelsey Ward (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), junior Arwen Wise (Weatherford, Tex.) and sophomores Celia Bertrand (Ashland, Oreg.) and Meren Zeliger (Farmington, Maine) were honored.

The men’s cross country squad also had six athletes on the list, including senior Ryan Weston (Goodyear, Ariz.), juniors Andy Kehias (Bloomington, Ill.) and Thomas Lempriere (Seattle, Wash.), plus sophomores Brendan Fant (East Lyme, Conn.), Christian Gottlieb (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.), and Drew Torell (South Kingstown, R.I.). The women’s cross country team also had six honorees, including seniors Margarita Hillon (Seattle, Wash.), Madeline Jozwik (Boise, Id.), Paige Phillips (Washington, N.C.), Sidney Triepke (Missoula, Mont.), and Sophia White (Gurley, Ala.) and junior Lucy Smith (North Stonington, Conn.).

In conclusion, senior Shannon Shaw (Torrance, Calif.), junior Samantha Ventimiglia (Key West, Fla.), and sophomores Julia Gallinger (Garrison, N.Y.), Sophia Rosenberg (Lebanon, Pa.), and Eloise Shirley (Burke, Va.) represented the Academy on the women’s volleyball honor roll.
