Record

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pacific volleyball team triumphed over Weber State 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 12-25, 15-11) at the McKale Center Friday morning during the first round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, thanks to outstanding offensive displays.

Pacific (19-12) now stands at 10-2 in matches that go the full five sets this season. This marks the highest number of five-set victories in a single season under head coach Greg Gibbons, who is in his 15th season.

Graduate Alexa Edwards led all players with 21 kills. She added 15 digs, making her one of two players from Pacific to achieve a double-double, along with senior Jenna Heller, who recorded 47 assists and 15 digs.

A significant contributor was junior Emily Van Groningen, who equaled her career-high with 16 kills and marked her eighth match of the year with double-figure kills (Pacific holds a 7-1 record in those encounters). She had previously recorded 10 or more kills only seven times combined in the last two seasons.

As a unit, Pacific collected 86 digs during the match, which is the third highest total of the season and the highest against a non-conference opponent. Leading the defensive efforts was senior libero Megan Nishimura, who achieved a season-high with 20 digs, marking her first time reaching the 20-dig milestone since Sept. 16, 2023, against Sacramento State.

Sophomore Dylan Gilkey recorded 11 digs, which is the first instance she has achieved 10 or more digs in back-to-back matches during her career.

Next for the Tigers is a showdown against site host Arizona (20-9), where Pacific holds a 7-5 edge in the all-time series. The match at McKale Center is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
