GREENSBORO – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving squad wrapped up the initial two days of the U.S. Open Championships held in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday and Thursday, shattering another program record.

“Our women are performing exceptionally well,” Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh stated. “Following our midseason invitational, maintaining focus through the holidays while gearing up for our finals week is quite a task.”

Marshall initiated the competition on Wednesday with Mia McBride, Paige Banton, Madeline Hart, and Kseniia Luniushina finishing the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:42.10, marking the seventh quickest time in the history of the program.

Luniushina took part in the 50 Freestyle on Thursday, finishing in 10th place with a time of

“Wednesday evening offered a fantastic start with a top 10 all-time finish for our 200 Medley Relay,” Walsh remarked. “Kseniia had a strong swim in the morning and was just shy of her personal best tonight, placing 10th overall. Both Paige and Audrey participated in time trials this morning to prepare for the evening events.”

Nonetheless, the standout performance on Thursday was delivered by Hart, who established a new program record in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:00.25 during a time trial.

“The highlight of the day was undoubtedly Madeline’s 200 butterfly time trial, achieving a personal best and breaking the longstanding school record set in 2004 by our Hall of Famer, Milla Kuurto. I’m very satisfied with our approach in each session and eager for tomorrow morning as we have seven chances to improve.”
