Upgrades to the “backstop berm for the metallic silhouette range” at the Koko Head Shooting Complex will lead to the closure of the facility from Monday to Friday between Dec. 9 and Dec. 20, as reported by the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation.

Throughout this period, the archery range will stay accessible. The entire complex will also be available for public use on Dec. 14 and 15 since no activities are planned for the weekend.

Ranges on the Hanauma Bay side will remain operational from Dec. 9 to 20 specifically for law enforcement purposes.

While the DPR team upgrades the backstop, which entails adding new soil to the existing berm, lead monitoring will take place on-site.

DPR anticipates that backstop renovations will be finished prior to Dec. 21, but it may reopen sooner if the work is completed ahead of schedule.

The metallic silhouette range is projected to reopen in January 2025 following further maintenance by DPR staff and the Hawaii Metallic Silhouette Shooters Association, which manages this particular range.

Initially shuttered in Sept. 2022, KHSC started reopening to the public in March and April 2024, with weekday hours for the pistol and rifle ranges reinstated in July 2024.
