The Acro Friendly contest, organized by Clondalkin Gymnastics Club, attracted more than 150 gymnasts from various clubs across Ireland, showcasing an array of dynamic partnerships.

This event accommodated a diverse range of skill levels, and for younger squad members, it marked their inaugural experience in the Acrobatics discipline.

The nine newly established partnerships executed a two-minute routine accompanied by music, featuring an extensive variety of balances and tumbles. Their hard work, commitment, and dedication undoubtedly paid off as the gymnasts brought home a commendable collection of medals for the club.

Kicking off the competition was the IDP trio: Erin McGoldrick, Jessica Hanna, and Aoife McGuigan, whose graceful and rhythmic performance earned them a well-deserved and outstanding silver medal position.

Following them were the IDP pairs.

Sarah Wilson and Dale Fisher, representing Splitz as the mixed pair, along with Mena O’Reilly and Riona Dooris in the women’s pairs category, both claimed the coveted gold medal position.

Next, Grade Five trio Poppy Corr, Naoise Kerrin, and Phoebe Rutledge took the stage to deliver their routine set to a James Bond medley, securing the bronze medal position.

Our Grade Four trio comprised of Cori McConnell, Alicia McElwaine, and Abi Ely performed an elegant routine to a ‘Dance Moms’ mix. This category featured the highest number of competitors, and their trio dazzled the audience with their artistic flair and skillful finesse.

Moving to the afternoon session, the Grade Three mixed pair, Annie-Rose Bannon and Dualta McNabb, impressed the audience with their powerful performance, choreographed to the Forrest Gump soundtrack, achieving yet another medal for the club with an exceptional first place.

Grade Two pair Maire-Aoibhlinn Mulholland and Mollie-Kate Brewster excelled in their routine to a Megan Trainor mix, showcasing a clean performance in a highly competitive category.

Our youngest pairing, Imogen Gallen and Claudie-Jane McKee, delivered a stellar performance that not only earned them the gold medal but also the highest score trophy. An excellent start to their first acrobatic gymnastics season!

As the competition concluded, the club’s last competitors finished the day on a high note with the youth trio of Sophie McGrath, Poppie Beddard, and Caoimhe O’Reilly. Their routine was a vibrant performance set to ‘Sister Act’, featuring technically demanding gymnastic elements that earned them the gold medal position.

Head Coach Jenny Hanna remarked: “What a fantastic way to kick off our competitive season! These partnerships are all newly formed this year and practice up to three evenings a week, so witnessing their hard work pay off is incredible. I couldn’t be prouder!”

The club’s Head Coach also acknowledged the immense support from parents and coaching staff, adding: “During a weekend marked by widespread flooding across the Region, there were moments we doubted our ability to reach the competition. I am tremendously thankful for the support and assistance of our parents, judges, and coaches. Without them, none of this would be achievable.”

An exciting season awaits all these acro partnerships as they eagerly anticipate flipping and dancing their way into many more fiercely contested competitions!
