District 6 Summit Highlights Progress

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Community members gathered for a summit hosted by Councilmember Jenni Berz to reflect on progress and priorities in District 6.

The event focused on economic development, housing, transportation, and other efforts to improve the quality of life across the district.

We spoke to Richard Johnson, Chair of Midtown Connects, and this is what he had to say about today’s events and Jenni Berz:

“Well, I’m very pleased that Councilwoman Jenni Berz is carrying on the tradition that Carol Berz had for a number of years. This is, I think, probably the ninth year the summit has been in play. I think it’s probably the first district that’s had this Summit, and the summit, as I say, is just a state of the community.”

The summit brought neighbors, leaders, and city officials together for meaningful dialogue and community connection.

Celebrating Young Entrepreneurship

EL CENTRO –  The San Diego and Imperial Small Business Development Center (SBDC) awarded one lucky young adult $2,000 toward staring a business. Aikel Franks presented his business plan for a custom videography business, focusing on Imperial Valley events, community events, and commercials for Valley businesses.

Five finalists out of around 12 young adults participated in the SBDC Young Entrepreneurship Academy this summer. The youths ranged from 17 to 22 years of age.

“I want to recognize the hard work and commitment,” said Viridiana Rosales-Trujillo. “Along with San Diego State University, we want to award you your certificate of completion.”

The original plan was to award the full amount of roughly $3,000 to one winner however after consulting, the three judges made an announcement.

Rosales-Trujillo announced, “We have decided to award the winner $2,000 and split the remaining money in the form of $250 towards each one of the remaining four participants, which will be enough to at least get you started with your licensing and permitting that we talked about.”

During the three week program, participants crafted a business plan, including cost overhead and marketing plans. The five finalists’ businesses included year round swimming lessons, a flight school, a flower shop boutique, interior design, and videography business.

The students were given certificates of recognition from the offices of California Senator Steve Padilla, 36th District of California Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez, and Senator Raul Ruiz (CA-D).

Love Island USA's Liv Walker Dating Mystery Athlete: 'Living Our Best Life' - Yahoo

Love Island USA alum Olivia Walker has found love outside the villa! The returning bombshell opened up on Love Island: Beyond the Villa and spoke about her new beau and how she’s really happy.

Olivia first appeared on Love Island Season 6. And she’s among the cast members starring in the brand new spinoff. The docuseries follows former islanders as they navigate their real lives. The show gives viewers the drama they want to see and a peek at what happens outside the fun and games of the villa.

Liv Walker is “happy” in her new relationship after Love Island USA

Fans were especially excited to see Kaylor Martin reunite with ex Aaron Evans. She’s admitted to still loving him but that doesn’t mean reconciliation. And it shouldn’t considering their toxic past.

But Kaylor and Aaron aren’t the only ones fans are watching. Australian bombshell Liv admitted on the first episode that she was “seeing someone new.” And while the series was filmed in the spring, Liv confirmed that they are still together now.

She appeared on SiriusXM’s Reality Checked and Dorinda Medley asked her, “Now we hear there might be a budding romance between you and an unnamed athlete. Can you give us any update on that?”

Liv smiled and confirmed, “I’m happy, in a relationship. We’re both living our best life.” She also clarified that she wasn’t purposefully trying to be cagey on the show.

“I feel like during the show it’s kind of early days so you see like different, I don’t get into detail with it just because I signed up for this life, but also because we’re still navigating it and working it out,” she explained.

She added, “I’m never hiding anything from the audience of wanting to keep my whole love life completely offline. That’s not the case. I just feel like we are just pick and choosing when to kind of share and making sure we’re happy, which we are with each other.”

It’s smart of her to tread cautiously. Going public can get quite complicated. But it seems like she’s pretty thrilled. “I’m excited when the time comes to share with everyone,” Liv said.

Love Island USA: Beyond the Villa is available to stream on Peacock.

Duke Recruiting

There’s nothing tangible here yet, but Joe Tipton of Rivals thinks that Duke leads for Jordan Smith.

Tipton: “Everything I’ve heard up to this point is that the Blue Devils will be difficult to beat.”

Smith of course goes to Paul VI in Fairfax, and Duke has seen several players from there in recent years including Jeremy Roach, Trevor Keels and currently Patrick Ngongba and Darren Harris.

Obviously they could give him a comfort level that would be hard to find anywhere else.

Smith is a 6-3 shooting guard who would fit well into Jon Scheyer’s offensive scheme. He’s also getting interest from Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisville and Syracuse.
