Class 4A Semifinal:Orlando proves to be no joy for Naples as Golden Eagles fall to Jones in the 4A state semifinal
Previously….
Naples (11-2) visits Orlando to challenge Jones (13-0) in a Class 4A state semifinal this evening, aiming to replicate the achievements of the 2001, ’03, and ’07 Golden Eagles teams that reached the state championship game. The victor will face American Heritage or St. Augustine for the 4A title on December 13 in Miami at Pitbull Stadium.
The No. 3 seeded Golden Eagles have only allowed 10 points through three playoff games, following consecutive shutouts against River Ridge and St. Petersburg, and a 17-10 victory over Port Charlotte in the regional final. This marks Naples’ 12th regional title in their 75-year history.
The Tigers approach the game as the No. 2 seed in Class 4A. Jones has claimed the regional championship for four consecutive years and five out of the last six, yet they seek their second appearance in the state championship after falling in 2019.
