READING, Pa. – The athletic department at Albright has revealed that men’s wrestling will return as a varsity sport, with competition commencing in 2025. Additionally, women’s wrestling will be introduced as a varsity sport in 2026, marking its debut at Albright as the sport’s popularity has surged in recent years.

Men’s wrestling is set to come back to Albright as an NCAA varsity program. Both men’s and women’s wrestling are classified as winter sports and will compete from November through March. The men’s wrestling program will kick off in the 2025-26 season and will participate in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). Albright will join institutions such as Alvernia, Delaware Valley, King’s, Messiah, Misericordia, Stevens, and York in the MAC. With the inclusion of men’s wrestling, Albright’s intercollegiate sports now total 24.

“We are thrilled to unveil this new program following the announcement of a fresh STUNT team at Albright, which represents another step in aligning Albright College with the aspirations and demands of today’s students,” stated Rick Ferry, Albright College Director of Athletics. “This new program will enable us to broaden our athletic offerings and address the increasing need for competitive opportunities at a high level. We believe the wrestling program will become an essential component of the Albright experience, imparting significant lessons in leadership, teamwork, and diligence.”

Albright College hosted men’s wrestling from 1957 until 2006. During the 49 years, Albright produced two MAC individual champions and four MAC runners-up, with MAC Champions including Ron Green and Richard Horst.

The Albright Hall of Fame has celebrated three individuals who distinguished themselves in wrestling at Albright: Fran Hatton ’31, who was a head coach; Gary Sheeler ’62, a team member; and Richard Horst ’66, who both wrestled and coached at Albright.

In September 2024, Albright announced the addition of STUNT as its latest intercollegiate offering, bringing the total to 23 before the inclusion of men’s and women’s wrestling. A full release on the addition of STUNT can be found here.

A national search for a head coach of the men’s wrestling team will commence immediately. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply by clicking here.
