WEST LAFAYETTE — While Purdue athletics seeks its next football coach, the institution is also onboarding another role to aid all Boilermaker coaches in adapting to the forthcoming revenue sharing model. Purdue athletics has listed a vacancy for an associate athletics director – resource management on the university’s job portal, just a day after athletic director Mike Bobinski assured that the new coach, who will take over from the recently dismissed Ryan Walters, will have ample resources.

This new administrative role is set to concentrate on the House vs. NCAA agreement concerning intercollegiate athletics, which entails a sanctioned settlement of approximately $2.8 billion. In this arrangement, schools from the Power 4 conferences, including Purdue, are required to channel back pay into a fund established for student-athletes that dates back to 2016.

Additionally, the agreement features a revenue-sharing framework allowing schools to directly compensate current and future student-athletes. In the inaugural year, institutions reportedly have the option to allocate up to $20.5 million for all athletes. Schools are projected to distribute these financial resources across different sports in a manner they deem appropriate.

As per the job advertisement, the appointed candidate will be responsible for planning, assessing, monitoring, and distributing revenue shares to student-athletes.

“This role will be tasked with ensuring that Purdue Athletics maintains the utmost dedication to competitive excellence within the Big Ten Conference, as well as on the national stage of college athletics, while also reaffirming Purdue’s enduring commitment to comply with all rules and regulations,” states the job listing.

On Monday, Bobinski noted that the university’s NIL (name, image, and likeness) framework was not as innovative as it ought to be.

“Over the past two-and-a-half to three years, the evolution of NIL has been quite different,” Bobinski remarked. “This situation hasn’t favored Purdue, presenting various challenges for us. Our stakeholders don’t generally align with the traditional methods through which NIL has progressed in recent times.

“However, this will start to shift going forward. I anticipate that it will positively redirect things back to us. We require a (football) coach who comprehends that, embraces it, and realizes that adapting to this new environment will necessitate fresh ideas and approaches. Disliking the evolution of this landscape isn’t an option. It has changed, and we need to excel within it.”

Purdue Boilermakers take the field to warm up Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, ahead of the NCAA football game against the Indiana State Sycamores at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue Boilermakers won 49-0.
