COLUMBIA — There was little amiss with the South Carolina women’s basketball offense at the beginning of the highly anticipated top-10 showdown versus Duke on Thursday night, and even with a messier second half, the No. 4 Gamecocks (8-1) ended the Blue Devils’ six-game winning streak with a score of 81-70.
In the first quarter of the SEC/ACC Challenge, South Carolina connected on 11-of-18 (61%) of their shots. By the time halftime arrived, South Carolina had limited Duke’s top two scorers, Ashlon Jackson and Reigan Richardson, to just three points apiece. The Gamecocks contributed 21 points from their bench in the first half, only 10 fewer than the Blue Devils (8-2) scored as a whole, along with 14 points off turnovers.
Chloe Kitts was the standout player, racking up 21 points and 11 rebounds, matching her career best in scoring.
South Carolina will have a brief pause before facing another top-15 opponent, heading to Fort Worth to take on No. 13 TCU on Sunday (7 p.m., ESPN2).
