North Lincoln football’s attempt at an upset was unable to prevail on Friday, concluding its season with a nail-biting 49-46 defeat against Western Foothills 3A rival Hickory.

Trailing by two touchdowns early on, the Knights managed to narrow Hickory’s advantage to 28-24 shortly into the third quarter thanks to an Eli Sipe touchdown run. The Red Tornadoes responded with 21 of the next 28 game points, featuring two scores from running back Isaiah Lackey.

North Lincoln kept the excitement alive in the final stages, with Shannon Wingate rushing for two touchdowns, including one shortly after the Knights recovered an onside kick. Landen Agee contributed with a rushing TD in the action-packed fourth quarter.

Wingate and Agee both recorded two rushing touchdowns, while Sipe rushed for one and threw another to wingback Tim Folk.

North Lincoln concludes the season with a 12-2 record, equaling the program’s single-season win record established by the 2019 team. However, Coach Nick Bazzle’s 2024 team made its mark in history as the first from the school to reach Round 4.

Hickory (14-0) is set to host West Charlotte in the NCHSAA 3A West final on Friday.
