NEW YORK, N.Y. – Marking the third consecutive year, Rutgers track and field commenced its indoor season at the renowned Armory Track and Field Complex located in New York City. The Scarlet Knights recorded 12 personal bests across nine events, showcasing a promising first performance on Friday.
The competition saw 17 first-place finishes. On the men’s front, Rutgers celebrated five victories on the track. Daniel Duncan claimed victory in the 60-meter with a time of 6.84, while Yashahya Brown secured first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a finish of 7.86. Shamali Whittle and Greg McQueen took the 1-3 spots in the 300-meter, with Whittle triumphing in 33.45, followed by McQueen at 34.47.
Lathan Brown clinched first in the 400-meter, recording a personal best of 48.36, while Bryce Tucker followed in second at 48.40 and Joshua Babe in third with a time of 48.67. Johnny Scalia emerged victorious in the 800-meter, finishing at 1:54.57, with Damani Brown coming in second at 1:56.00.
The men’s team also excelled in the field events, securing victories in three competitions, including a personal best and first-place achievement by Foluso Adedeji in high jump, clearing 2.06m (6′ 9″). Donavan Anderson won the triple jump with a leap of 15.71m (51′ 6.5″). The men’s pole vault achieved a 1-2-3 finish, led by Brian O’Sullivan, who topped the field clearing 5.22m (17′ 1.5″) in the least amount of attempts. Kevin O’Sullivan equaled that height for second place, followed by Noah Kriesman at 5.02m (16′ 5.5″).
The women’s squad tallied four first-place finishes on the track, driven by Azariah Grantham in the 200-meter with a time of 24.88. She also achieved a second-place finish in the 60-meter with a time of 7.53. Celine-Jada Brown took the win in the 300-meter at 38.68, while Paige Floriea won the 400-meter with a time of 56.72. Jenai Berry captured the 800-meter title with a personal best of 2:16.39. Additionally, Anabella Chin delivered a personal-best performance in the 60-meter hurdles, timing in at 8.76.
Jenovia Logan achieved victory in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.78m (5′ 10″), with Alanna Woolfolk taking third place at 1.71m (5′ 7.25″). In the long jump, Rutgers secured a 1-2 finish with Kristina Tossas achieving victory with a jump of 6.10m (20′ 0.25″), while Paige Floriea came in second at 6.03m (19′ 9.5″). Faith Bethea triumphed in the triple jump with a distance of 12.29m (40′ 4″).
Chloe Timberg took first in the pole vault, clearing 4.28m (14′ 0.5″). Suzy Lacombe secured second place with a height of 3.83m (12′ 6.75″), and Emma Keating finished in third with a height of 3.83m (12′ 6.75″). Alicia Campbell led the throw group for the Scarlet Knights, winning the weight throw with a distance of 18.97m (62′ 3″) and securing third in the shot put with a throw of 14.79m (48′ 6.25″).
Rutgers will be back in action in the New Year, heading to Philadelphia for the Penn Select on Saturday, January 11 on the UPenn campus.
