CALUMET, Mich. – The NMU women’s nordic ski squad kicked off the 2024/25 season in Calumet on Saturday, participating in the Swedetown Season Opener.

“There’s plenty of snow here in Calumet, but the freezing rain made the trails somewhat icy and difficult,” said head coach Andy Keller following the 7.5km interval start race.  “It was a great race to shake off the rust and kickstart the season.”

Henriette Nilssen earned a spot on the podium, securing second place in the under-29 category with a time of 20:01.6.

Pearl Harvey followed closely behind for the Wildcats, finishing fifth with a time of 20:56.2.

Completing the Wildcats’ lineup was Ella Niznik, who placed 12th with a finish time of 22:21.2.

NMU will next hit the trails on December 12 and 14, competing in the Gitchi Gami Games at the Birkie trail system located in Cable, Wisconsin. Thursday will feature the freestyle sprint, while Saturday will highlight the classic sprint.
