Indiana high school basketball is immensely valued due to the myriad of talents it has channeled into collegiate and pro basketball. The rivalry has been glamorized in films, while scouts gather at the games to observe the finest players.
As the 2024-25 basketball season kicks off, it’s no surprise that six of their leading ten teams find themselves ranked in the national top 100. Below is how the rankings shaped up following the first series of games according to the Indiana On3 Composite Rankings.
The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking utilizes a proprietary algorithm that gathers rankings published in the public domain by esteemed High School media and data organizations. It incorporates data from Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, offering the most thorough and geographically even High School Team Ranking in the industry.
Despite the Lakers facing their first defeat of the season against IMG Academy, one of the premier teams in the country, this does not undermine their position as Indiana high school basketball’s leading squad. Their roster, filled with talent and prospective college players, is expected to help the nation’s 20th-ranked team recover swiftly.
Ranked 35th in the United States, the team has commenced the season well, triumphing over Ben Davis (71-36) and Arsenal Technical (91-63). Indiana’s highest-ranked team according to the On3 Massey Ratings will take on Noblesville, Mt. Vernon, and Hamilton Southeastern in their upcoming three contests.
The Cougars kicked off their season with a victory over Beech Grove, 62-38. Braylon Mullins shined against the Hornets, scoring 35 points, alongside six rebounds, four assists, and a block. Michael Johnson contributed 14 points and five rebounds. This 36th-ranked team will next face Ben Davis.
The Fighting Irish managed to split their first two matches, decisively beating Warren Central by 35 points but narrowly losing to Jeffersonville by two points. Four players posted double-digit scores despite the setback, with Brady Koehler leading with 19 points. Ranked 44th in the nation, they will seek redemption against Norcross and Woodward Academy in their next two games.
The Wildcats began their season with a loss to Crispus Attucks, 63-54. In that game, Brennan Miller recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Kai McGrew added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Azavier Robinson contributed ten points and two blocks. As the 52nd team in the nation, they are set to launch their 2024 Indiana high school basketball season on Dec. 7 against West Side.
The Red Devils opened their season with a narrow victory over Cathedral. Michael Cooper led the scoring with 29 points, along with four rebounds and five steals. P.J. Douglas scored 18 points while also gathering six rebounds, and Gilly Polk had 10 points and six rebounds. The team, ranked 87th in the nation, will take on North, Pike, and Seymore in their next three matches.
After a heavy 35-point loss to Fishers, Ben Davis rebounded with a win over Zionsville, 56-45. Tavion Williams scored 17 points and collected seven rebounds against the Eagles, while Jashawn Ladd added 16 points. Following this victory, Ben Davis is slated to play against Greenfield-Central, Franklin Central, and Warren Central.
The Millers started strong, winning their first two games convincingly against Hamilton Heights (76-38) and Franklin (59-41). In their upcoming games, Noblesville hopes to keep their winning momentum against Fishers, Carmel, and Jeffersonville.
The Greyhounds avenged their loss to the Zionsville Eagles in November 2023 by defeating them as the 2024 Indiana high school basketball season begins. Carmel will follow this win by playing Lawrence Central, Plainfield, and Noblesville in their next three games.
The Shamrocks are off to a perfect start at 2-0, achieving dominant victories over Frankfort (87-17) and Pendleton Heights (55-37). Durante Morton led with 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists against the Arabians. Will Harvey contributed 15 points and two steals. Westfield will face Zionsville, Guerin Catholic, and Noblesville in their upcoming trio of games.
