The 2024 Australian Surfing Awards took place at HOTA, Home of the Arts, on the Gold Coast, presenting an incredible night honoring Australia’s surfing champions and contributors across 20 award categories. The highlight of the event was the induction of Luke Egan into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame, acknowledging his remarkable 22-year journey on the ASP/World Surf League Championship Tour.

The Newcastle-born surfer, celebrated for his distinctive style and competitive accomplishments—four event victories and a runner-up result in the 2000 World Title—shared his appreciation during an interview with surf legends Joel Parkinson, Mark “Occy” Occhilupo, and Mark Richards.

“This is such a privilege,” Egan stated. “Being recognized alongside my idols is incredibly fulfilling. Surfing has bestowed upon me everything, and I’m thankful to be part of such a remarkable community.”

Honoring Surfing Excellence

The awards showcased Australia’s current prowess in surfing, with Jack Robinson and Molly Picklum named Male and Female Surfer of the Year, respectively. Both athletes have represented Australia at the Olympics and on the World Tour, demonstrating outstanding talent and consistency.

Emerging talents were also recognized, with Dane Henry and Sierra Kerr receiving the Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore Rising Star Awards, while Jocelyn Neumueller and Kai Colless were awarded Female and Male Para Surfers of the Year.

Surfing icon Layne Beachley AO was honored with Surfing Australia Life Membership for her remarkable contributions to the sport. As a seven-time World Champion, Beachley’s influence reaches beyond championships as a trailblazer for equitable pay, improved opportunities for women, and her leadership as the former Chair of Surfing Australia.

“It’s a recognition that motivates me to continue pushing for progress,” Beachley remarked.
