SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Positioned between two top-five home contests against Texas and Connecticut, No. 10 Notre Dame (6-2) travels to Syracuse this weekend for its 2024-25 ACC debut.

Notre Dame comes off a thrilling overtime win over No. 4 Texas during Thursday’s SEC-ACC Challenge. The match showcased 10 ties, with five occurring in the fourth quarter, and ended regulation tied at 68. After allowing an early basket in overtime, Notre Dame launched a 12-0 run to finish the game, securing their second top-five victory of the season.

Hannah Hidalgo led the Irish with a remarkable 30 points that night, ranking third nationally in scoring with an average of 24.9 points per game. Guards Sonia Citron and Olivia Miles also made significant contributions, each scoring 18 points. Miles recorded 6 assists, while Citron achieved a career-high of 7 steals.

Notably, Hidalgo has accumulated 987 career points. If she hits the 1000-point milestone this weekend, she will have done so in just 44 games. The record for the quickest to reach this mark is held by Beth Morgan, who accomplished it in 60 games starting in the 1993-94 season.

Although Syracuse was a tough opponent for Notre Dame last year — defeating the Irish twice — the younger squad is currently facing challenges this season. Syracuse has utilized four different starting lineups in its nine games. Guards Sophie Burrows and Georgia Woolley, along with forward Kyra Wood, have been consistent starters, with Woolley leading the Orange in scoring at 15.3 points per game.

Statistically, Syracuse ranks as the No. 18 scoring defense in the ACC, yet they managed to limit Texas A&M to 57 points in a loss during the SEC-ACC Challenge on Wednesday. The Orange have performed well from long range this season, carrying a 35.9 shooting percentage from beyond the arc into Sunday’s game, placing them fifth in the conference.

Notre Dame boasts a 39-6 all-time record against Syracuse. Sunday’s afternoon game is set to begin at noon and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
