Odermatt kicked off the season by skiing out during the first run of a giant slalom on October 27 in Sölden, Austria. He dominated by winning nine out of ten GS races in the current 2023-24 season.
He subsequently finished second in a downhill race at Beaver Creek on Friday, just two tenths behind fellow countryman Justin Murisier.
“It was a crucial weekend, especially after my performance in Sölden,” Odermatt remarked. “I needed to clarify some doubts, and I accomplished that.”
Having secured his first World Cup victory in Beaver Creek back in 2019 at just 22 years old, Odermatt has now reached a total of 38 wins in his career, only two short of the Swiss men’s record set by 1988 Olympic downhill gold medalist Pirmin Zurbriggen.
The all-time Swiss record for World Cup wins is held by Vreni Schneider, with a total of 55 victories.
The men’s World Cup event at Beaver Creek will wrap up on Sunday with a giant slalom race.
The women’s competition will take place at Beaver Creek next weekend, with coverage provided on NBC Sports and Peacock.
