Shareef O’Neal was merely a baby when his father celebrated his first championship victory. He was just starting to take his first steps during the Lakers’ three-peat. However, he possesses some remarkable memorabilia from his father’s illustrious career and more. After being released by the Sacramento Kings and the G-League, Shareef’s fashion sense continues to flourish. Recently, he received a fantastic gift that pays homage to Shaquille O’Neal’s legacy, closely linked to Kobe Bryant. Naturally, he couldn’t wait to show it off.

The Miami-based fashion label, Brickell Boys, showcased their latest offerings on their social platforms – two jackets reminiscent of the legendary Lakers championship jackets from the Shaq & Kobe era. Shareef, Shaq, and the renowned leather jacket designer, Jeff Hamilton, are connected through this new release. Although it seems that Shareef hasn’t yet taken ownership of the jackets, he did share the post on his Instagram Stories.

It remains uncertain whether these are the original designs by Jeff Hamilton from the Lakers’ three-peat or if they are reproductions of the classic jackets. Hamilton is a fashion genius who transformed biker jackets into staples of pop culture. He has crafted pieces for many A-list stars and has adorned champions across all eras and sports. Throughout his career, he has oscillated between retirement to create one memorable piece after another, including a jacket for each Lakers’ championship run.

The most notable creation by Hamilton that holds an everlasting place in pop culture originates from the 2001 victory. Kobe Bryant was seen wearing the Hamilton jacket when he was photographed in the locker room, heartbroken with the Larry O’Brien trophy in hand. Shaq also had his version of that same jacket, which he was pictured in at that moment.

Shaquille O’Neal also boasts additional Hamilton creations in his collection, including a variant of the 2003 three-peat jacket akin to the gift from Brickell Boys. Shareef frequently revisits cherished memories through these pieces, which are accessible to his children.

Lakers jackets carry significant memories for Shaq’s son

Shareef was born in Los Angeles in January 2000, during the Lakers’ quest for their first title after Magic Johnson’s era. This was followed by a three-peat, with Jeff Hamilton designing custom jackets to celebrate each championship for the Lakers.

Shareef pulled out the 2002 three-peat jacket during the Lakers’ victory over the Nets in 2020 for an emotional reason. He was missing his ‘uncle’ and guide, Kobe Bryant, who had tragically passed away alongside Gianna earlier that year. Regardless of any quarrels between Shaq and Kobe, Bryant maintained a close bond with the O’Neal family, often checking in on his kids. Shareef shared this heartfelt tribute on social media in a now-deleted post featuring a picture of Bryant in his own 2002 jacket.

Most recently, Jeff Hamilton created another special jacket for Shaq when the Orlando Magic retired his jersey earlier this year. Shareef, along with the entire family, was present during the ceremony when the team presented Superman with the jacket celebrating all his achievements in Orlando.

Thanks to the Brickell Boys, Shareef may soon have his own version of his father and uncle’s jackets. We are looking forward to that fitting reveal soon.
