The Brief Overview: Following an exhilarating two-day season launch at the Reno Sparks Convention Center during the Silver State Invite, the Aggies achieved remarkable results – showcasing returning veterans alongside impressive newcomers.
 
EVENT RECAP (FRIDAY): Among the 11 competitions at the Sparks Center, the Aggies clinched top ten positions in eight events across various disciplines. Veteran competitor Ashpreet Kler led the weight throws for the squad, securing third place.
 
Several freshmen made their collegiate debuts on December 6th, including the 800 meter freshman team of Kiah Aitken, Kayla Towne, and Grace Dunham – finishing in 6th, 8th, and 10th respectively.
 
Junior Maya Shinnick scored an indoor personal best in the 400 meter dash, completing the event in 56.80 seconds. Sophomore Cierra Kinsey closely followed, finishing 6th with a time of 57.24.
 
Junior transfer Kadidja Sangare shone brightly in her first competition in an Aggie jersey, landing fourth in the long jump with an impressive leap of 5.88 meters.
 
As the first day of the Silver State invite concluded, the Aggies showcased their finest performances of the meet. Sophomore Stormy Wallace captured the title in the 5000-meter run, the longest event of the day. She crossed the finish line first, breaking the 18-minute barrier with a time of 17:59.43.
 
To cap off the day, the pole-vaulting team soared to victory, clinching the top two positions in the event. After a tense jump-off, Sydney McCann emerged victorious and Sarah Graessley tied for second place.
 
EVENT RECAP (SATURDAY): The Aggies faced a slightly smaller slate of events to commence the Saturday section of the meet, with just six competitions scheduled.
 
Sophomore Chiara Fantin from Italy secured ninth place in the triple jump, covering 11.38 meters.
 
Junior transfer Kadidja Sangare continued her strong performance with a second fourth place finish of the weekend in the 60 hurdles.
 
Sophomore Dominika Janik delivered an outstanding performance in the 600-meter dash, finishing second overall. Aitken and Towne also made the top ten, placing eighth and ninth respectively.
 
A rookie squad consisting of Kiah Aitken, Grace Dunham, Kayla Towne, and Angeline Valladares finished fifth out of seven in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay.
 
To conclude a strong and commendable Aggie performance in their season debut, Maya Shinnick, Cierra Kinsey, Ashleigh Christy, and Dominika Janik earned second place in the 4×400 relay, finishing strongly with a time of 3:50.35.
 
WHAT’S NEXT: This marks the conclusion of the Aggies’ 2024 indoor season segment. The team will return to the Reno Sparks Convention Center once again as they officially launch into competition on January 24-25th for the Nevada Invite.
