FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men’s track and field squad kicked off their season with a remarkable performance, notching multiple event victories at the Mastodon Opener on Saturday (Dec. 7).

Two athletes began the year by setting personal bests in field events. Michael Drohosky achieved a height of 1.95 meters in the high jump, surpassing his rivals, while Owen Kaufman clinched first place with a throw of 15.87 meters in the weight throw.

Three freshmen from Purdue Fort Wayne shone brightly, taking the lead in their respective events. Cainen Northington clocked in at 23.23 to secure first in the 200 meters, while Damien Keys triumphed in the long jump with a distance of 6.83 meters, and Josiah Bird achieved the longest shot put mark at 14.63 meters.

The ‘Dons 4×400 meter relay team outperformed all others with a time of 3:35.42. Junior Troy Golden led his teammates Jonas Morris, Ambrose English, and Northington in his first event back from an injury sustained during his freshman year.

Andrew Roman soared over 4.45 meters in the pole vault to secure first place. Morris finished the 400 meters in 49.57, edging out his brother Noah Morris by 0.1 seconds.

Columbia City alumni Austin Hall and Seth Mills both emerged victorious in their events. Hall finished the mile in 4:33.48, and Mills clocked a time of 1:26.21 in the 600 meters.

Purdue Fort Wayne will host the Mastodon Invitational and Multis on January 17-18 for the Mastodons Senior Day.
