MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team faced little resistance from Montreat on Saturday, overpowering the Cavaliers, 112-60, at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The Skyhawks controlled the game from the opening tip, never falling behind and holding a lead as large as 54 points. UT Martin achieved an impressive shooting percentage of 52.9% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc, while limiting Montreat to a mere 31.7% field goal percentage and a scant 14.3% from 3-point range.
UT Martin amassed 29 of their 112 points from the charity stripe, making 42 free throw attempts throughout the contest. They scored 48 points in the paint, capitalized for 19 points off turnovers, earned 24 second-chance points, generated 34 fast-break points, and received 42 points contributed by their bench.
All nine Skyhawks who played on Saturday found the score sheet, with eight of them scoring in double figures. Tarence Guinyard topped the scoring for UT Martin with 17 points, supported by a solid 6-of-12 shooting effort. Andrija Bukumirović achieved a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Stefano Faloppa also notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Skyhawks will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 11, as they head to Alabama State. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m. from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.
