OSHKOSH & KENOSHA, Wis. — The North Park Track & Field team participated in the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Open and Carthage’s Forever Red Alumni Classic over the weekend.
The standout story from both competitions centers around Thea Ring, achieving a personal best in the Pentathlon (3,507) and securing a first-place finish, indicating that the junior multi-sport athlete is in impressive midseason condition.
Ring ranked among the top three in every event of the Pentathlon, showcasing a personal best of 10.76m in the shotput where she also placed first. Additionally, she won the 800m race clocking in at 2:24.53, and triumphed in the 200m dash with a time of 25.30.
Junior sprinter Riana Hayes closely followed Ring in the 200m, finishing second with a time of 25.95. Hayes placed fourth in the 60m dash with a finals time of 7.81, while Julia Klein secured fifth place in the Pole Vault clearing a height of 3.20m, showcasing a strong performance for NPU in Oshkosh.
At Carthage’s Forever Red Classic, senior Marianna Costa was close to setting a personal best with her time of 27.88, finishing fifth overall. Additionally, she placed fourth in the 55m dash with a time of 7.59.
Junior long-distance runner Ali Karatas also clinched a top position, winning the mile event with a time of 4:36.94, just two-tenths of a second ahead of Carthage’s Topher Davis. This time marks a new personal record for Karatas.
Josh Brito finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 54.24, concluding the top performers for the men’s team.
