LINCOLN, Neb. — — Amiah Hargrove came off the bench to sink consecutive 3-pointers and score eight points in a row as No. 25 Nebraska established a 16-point advantage after one quarter, ultimately securing an 84-65 victory against the previously undefeated Minnesota in their Big Ten Conference opener on Sunday.

The Cornhuskers (8-1) showcased their prowess on the boards, outmatching the Golden Gophers 49-30 in rebounds while accumulating 22 assists on their 31 successful field goals in the dominant performance.

Minnesota (10-1) entered the matchup as the only remaining unbeaten team in the Big Ten and received votes in the women’s Top 25 poll but struggled to find their rhythm against their first ranked adversary, mustering only 19 points in the first half.

The Huskers derived exactly half of their total offensive production from the bench. Alberte Rimdal spearheaded the effort, converting 4 of 8 from the floor, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, to rack up 12 points while distributing six assists. Starters Alexis Markowski and Callin Hake each contributed 11 points, with Markowski leading the team in rebounds with nine. Hargrove ended the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Britt Prince’s streak of five consecutive double-digit scoring performances was snapped, finishing with seven points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

The Gophers were led by Mallory Heyer, who recorded 12 points and eight rebounds, while Tory McKinney added 11 points, and both Grace Grocholski and Alexsia Rose chipped in with 10 points each.

Neither squad will face a Big Ten opponent until after Christmas. Nebraska will embark on its toughest away trip of the season, visiting No. 1 UCLA on Dec. 29 and No. 6 USC on New Year’s Day. Minnesota will clash with Wisconsin on New Year’s Eve.
