NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Residents are showcasing their Christmas decorating talents for a worthwhile purpose in Northbridge during the second annual Blackstone Valley Festival of Trees.

All the trees displayed in the Great Hall at Northbridge Town Hall will be raffled off, and visitors from the weekend cast their votes for their favorite tree.

Funds generated will support the Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter, which is now entering its eighth year of providing a warm refuge for those in need.

Executive Director Leslie Reichert expressed her joy in witnessing the community’s enthusiasm to contribute.

“We’re working to establish an actual shelter at St. Pat’s Parish in Whitinsville, and there are over 10 individuals eagerly awaiting its opening because they’re currently living in their cars, in tents, or in the woods and facing the cold,” Reichert noted. “So we’re pushing to expedite this process to offer them more assistance.”

Reichert mentioned that since colder weather set in, the Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter has assisted 60 individuals this season.

Local businesses and other contributors collaborated to decorate more than 40 trees for the event.
