PITTSBURG — The men’s indoor track & field squad from Pittsburg State University achieved four individual event victories along with numerous impressive performances at the season’s inaugural Crimson & Gold Invitational held on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

The Gorillas earned individual event triumphs from Jack Haukup in the weight throw (60-0, PQ); Nate Watson in the 300 meters (33.62); Braden Zaner in the 3,000 meters (8:25.97); and the 4x400m relay composed of Woyn Chatman, Amar Williams, Watson, and Caden Williams (3:10.23, PQ).

Zaner added a second-place finish in the 5,000m (14:35.85) on Friday evening, while newcomer Nolton Shelvin secured second in the 300m (33.82). Britton Gage finished third in the pole vault (16-3.75, PQ) and Caden Williams also came in third in the 300m (33.85).

Tre Betts captured fourth in the long jump (24-0.5, PQ) and Eli Gilmore placed fourth in the 800 meters (1:52.23, PQ). Freshman Tyrone Jackson registered a PQ time of 8.00 in the 60m hurdles during his debut for Pitt State, while new addition Drake Stapleton achieved a PQ mark in the shot put (54-8.25) at his first collegiate competition.

Mason Strader also shattered his own school record in the 3,000 meters on Friday at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, timing in at an impressive 7:54.43 in the event. Dylan Sprecker also recorded a personal best of 8:15.53 in the 3,000m at Boston, marking the fifth-fastest time in Pitt State’s record books.
