CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned goalie Petr Mrazek to injured reserve due to an injury to his left groin.
Mrazek left the game in the first period during a 4-2 defeat against Winnipeg, with Arvid Soderblom stepping in. The 32-year-old Mrazek has recorded a record of 7-11-1, with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage over 20 appearances this season.
Additionally, the Blackhawks gave defensemen Alex Vlasic (rest) and Alec Martinez (neck), as well as forward Craig Smith (rest), a break during Sunday’s practice.
Last in the standings, the Blackhawks have called up goaltender Drew Commesso and defenseman Kevin Korchinski from the Rockford team of the American Hockey League.
Commesso is expected to serve as Soderblom’s backup while Mrazek is out. Veteran goalie Laurent Brossoit, who had signed a two-year deal with Chicago during free agency, is currently unavailable due to a right knee problem.
20-year-old Korchinski was chosen by Chicago with the seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft and tallied five goals and 10 assists in 76 games with the Blackhawks last season.
