THE NINE NOMINEES for the RTÉ Sport Team of the Year 2024 have been revealed.

The four All-Ireland champions, Damien Duff’s Shelbourne, and Andy Farrell’s Ireland rugby squad are all contenders, alongside accomplished Olympic and Paralympic teams.

Rowing champions Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy, Ireland’s 4x400m mixed relay team that achieved European gold, and Paralympic cycling stars Katie George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly are also in contention.

The Limerick hurlers were last year’s recipients of the award.

The RTÉ Sport Awards 2024 will be held next Sunday, 15 December, with Joanne Cantwell, Darragh Moloney, and Jacqui Hurley taking on hosting duties. The event will be televised live on RTÉ One starting at 9.30pm.

Apart from the Team of the Year, other awards like RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year, Young Sportsperson of the Year, and Manager of the Year are also available.

Clare hurling

This year, the Clare hurling team secured the All-Ireland championship with a victory over Kilkenny, marking the fifth title for the Banner County and their first since 2013.

Armagh football

The Armagh football squad achieved the county’s second All-Ireland senior football title following their win against Galway this year.

Kerry football

The Kerry senior ladies’ football team emerged as All-Ireland champions this year after defeating Galway, concluding a 31-year drought for the title in The Kingdom.

Cork camogie

The Cork camogie team triumphed over Galway in the All-Ireland final to clinch back-to-back senior championships for the county.

Shelbourne FC

This year, Shelbourne won the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Men’s Premier Division Championship for the first time in 18 years.

Irish men’s rugby team

The Irish men’s rugby squad successfully defended their Six Nations title this year.

Ireland men’s lightweight double sculls

The pair of Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy successfully retained their Olympic title at this year’s Games in Paris.

Katie George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly

The Paralympic duo secured both gold and silver medals in road cycling at this year’s Paris 2024 Games and are also double world champions.

Ireland 4x400m mixed relay team

The team consisting of Rhasidat Adeleke, Sharlene Mawdsley, Christopher O’Donnell, and Thomas Barr clinched gold at this year’s European Championships in Rome.
