MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Eight fortunate children in Minot received new skateboards, courtesy of a project by local resident Laird Reed.

In the beginning of November, Reed gathered skateboard accessory donations aiming to assemble a brand-new skateboard.

To his delight, the community rallied together with not only accessories but also financial contributions.

This enabled Reed to acquire eight fresh skateboards to distribute to kids as young as two years old.

“There’s a reasonably sized skate park, but Minot is quite large. I believe there is ample opportunity for growth in the skateboarding scene. This community has many military families moving in and out throughout the year,” stated Reed.

Approximately 17 kids registered for a skateboard, and Reed chose the recipients through a random selection process.

He expressed a desire to have provided a skateboard for each child, and he is looking to broaden the scope of this initiative.

Moreover, another Minot resident has reached out to him for ideas to elevate the program.

“I aim to initiate another project, but I envision it expanding beyond just skateboards. If possible, I’d like to organize a bike/skateboard drive,” shared Reed.

Not every family could pick up their skateboards on Saturday, but Reed assured they will arrange to ensure everyone receives their new board.

Reed mentioned he is in the process of establishing a nonprofit organization.

Additionally, he operates a mobile skate shop named “Just Coping.”
