SALEM — Lib’s Market, 474 E. State St., has teamed up with the Columbiana County Department of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) Reach 4 More business engagement program to host an informational day from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

During those hours, Lib’s patrons can get information about Reach 4 More, pick up a gift bag and enjoy a free cup of coffee.

Paul Anthony, CCBDD Business Engagement Specialist, explained that Reach 4 More assists people with developmental disabilities in reaching their full potential and maintaining their employment once placed. On Dec. 11, the focus is awareness and information. “Most people know Robert Bycroft School but they may not realize that the Board of Developmental Disabilities has other programs to support people throughout their lives,” he explained.

Representatives from several CCBDD programs will be on hand to provide information to both employers and potential participants. Staff will also provide information to connect people to the appropriate divisions and other county services if needed.

Ben Ratner, Lib’s Market owner, has employed people with disabilities for several years, and said he was happy to provide a location where the Board of Developmental Disabilities could promote this and other programs. He invites people to come and chat and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

“Lib’s Market is a good place for this type of outreach because it has a lot of foot traffic and is somewhere that might not be the normal kind of community for CCBDD. They’ll meet new people who haven’t necessarily heard about their programs,” Ratner said.

Anthony said the people who have disabilities are very dependable and have a record of longevity in the workplace.“We have one man who recently celebrated 18 years of employment with ongoing supports,” Anthony said.

“I’m inviting everyone who wants more information to stop by Lib’s on Dec. 11. We’ll have information for employers including how to access tax credits. We can assist businesses and individuals in connecting with an appropriate program. And they can enjoy a good cup of coffee while they’re here,” Anthony said.
