ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference has announced its first Athlete of the Week selections Tuesday afternoon.
Illinois State had four athletes selected for Athlete of the Week, following a strong start to the 2024-25 campaign where the Redbirds secured 15 event wins over the two-day meet.
Senior William Sinclair earned Male Track Athlete of the Week, after a historic performance at the 2024-25 BU Sharon Colyear-Colville Season Opener. Sinclair finished with a time of 13:45.46, setting a new MVC indoor record for the 5,000m. Sinclair’s mark is also the fastest time in Illinois State history.
Junior Lindsey Miller was awarded Female Track Athlete of the Week following her performance at the John Coughlan Invite. Miller ran a personal best time of 7.37 in the 60m dash, her mark was the second-fastest time in program history.
Senior Ariel Atias earned Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning the men’s heptathlon. Atias recorded a mark of 5179 and won the men’s heptathlon pole vault and shot put events.
Senior Kiley Sanders won Female Field Athlete of the Week after winning the women’s pentathlon and high jump events. Sanders secured a victory in the high jump following a jump of 1.74m which was enough to enter Illinois State’s top-10 list on Friday. Sanders then improved on her mark and cleared 1.80m in the women’s pentathlon high jump on Saturday which moved her to third all-time in program history. Her point total of 3672 in pentathlon was also enough to enter the Redbirds’ top-10 list.

The Redbirds will return to action on January 17th for the Coughlan-Malloy Cup at Horton Field House.
