EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The final game of the girls’ varsity flag football season is on the horizon.
The Greenbrier Wolfpack are hoping to go back-to-back for the first time in the program’s young history.
They’ve lost just one game in the last 15 months with no intention of coming short.
The Greenbrier girls’ varsity flag football team has dominated on their run to a second straight title appearance.
“It’s been certainly no little feat. Even just to get through our area. You know all the teams around here have had a good playoff run and being able to get through our area unscathed is very tough,” said Head Coach Daniel Jordan.
Jordan’s team is getting one final practice in at the Wolfden Saturday morning ahead of the biggest game in their careers.
Quarterback Kenzie Horton said: “I trust my team. I trust my teammates. I know they’re going to do what they need to do and as long as we come together and do that together I think we’ll be fine.”
Linebacker Abby Laster said: “I trust my teammates to do what they’re supposed to do and they trust me so it’s pretty cool.”
The program has only been around since 2020 and has now been to the state championship twice.
On Monday, they’ll take on North Oconee with a shot to make even more history on the line.
Wide receiver and Linebacker Aaliyah Silver said: “We know we’re making history. We’re the only team in Columbia County to make it that far. So, it’s like very inspiring to other people and younger girls that want to play the sport.”
Last year’s state championship team saw three seniors graduate, leaving just two to take their place this season while also giving the future of the program the experience to go deep in the postseason.
Jordan said: “Well obviously we got a lot of talent. A lot of talented girls. I think it also says their preparation is pretty solid. A lot of their success has to before we get to game day.”
Greenbrier will host a sendoff outside of the high school on Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
Kickoff between Greenbrier and North Oconee is set for Monday at 2 p.m. inside Mercedes Benz Stadium.
