The NBA “helped spruce up” a Las Vegas community center, looking to “leave a greater impression on the area” outside of three basketball games held in Southern Nevada for the league’s annual IST. The “newly renovated multipurpose room, fitness and training studio” at the Bill and Lillie Heinrich YMCA were unveiled during a Monday ribbon-cutting ceremony, featuring players and mascots from NBA Cup final teams, former NBAers JOAKIM NOAH and DERON WILLIAMS and NBA execs, including Deputy Commissioner MARK TATUM. More than “100 children were on hand” at the ceremony. They also took part in an NBA-hosted basketball clinic during which six NBAers “interacted with the youth.” Bucks G AJ GREEN said that he “was happy to take part in the event” (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 12/17).

THE MAIN EVENT: Spectrum Center in Charlotte last night hosted the first night of the annual Jumpman Classic college basketball event, which features two nights of a men’s/women’s basketball doubleheader. The event is organized by the Charlotte Sports Foundation and features four Jumpman-branded schools in North Carolina, Michigan, Oklahoma and Florida. A UNC-Florida men’s game kickoff the event, and the building was filled with a number of notable names. The Charlotte Sports Foundation’s DANNY MORRISON, WILL PITTS and WILL LAWSON were on hand (and also preparing for the organization’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Jan. 3). Florida AD SCOTT STRICKLIN and UNC AD BUBBA CUNNINGHAM were spotted chatting at halftime. Others seen throughout the night were former UNC coach ROY WILLIAMS; Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing President STEVE NEWMARK; Spectrum Center GM DONNA JULIAN; Bespoke Sports & Entertainment’s MIKE BOYKIN, GREG BUSCH and BROOKE FAW; former Hornets President FRED WHITFIELD; ESPN Events VP CLINT OVERBY; ESPN Senior Director of Programming & Acquisitions DAN MARGULIS; former NBAer and current Thunder scout NICK COLLISON and former Tar Heel players ANTAWN JAMISON, MARK MAYE and PHIL FORD (SBJ).
