LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – After a long fall semester, the Cameron University esports team “The Pickaxes” have brought their competitive season to a close.

The Pickaxes are composed of several different divisions which include a Valorant Team, a Overwatch Team and a Smash Bros Ultimate Team. Each respective team made the playoffs in their respective division.

The Overwatch team made it to the divisional championship match going up against the University of Minnesota. The Pickaxes overall score for the season was a very impressive 6-1 record making them one of the top seeds in the playoffs. The Pickaxes fell to the Bulldogs in a best of 5, the score being 3-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. The members on the main roster being the team captain Sarah Monk, Elijah Robertson, Jones Baskett and Wyatt McClure.

The Valorant team made it to the playoffs taking a record of 7-1, losing in the quarterfinals to the University of Guelph, the score being 2-1 in a best of 5. The pickaxes score was very impressive this season making a strong run. The members of the main roster being the team captain JaMeisa Burton, Kaddin Debertolis, Juan Joel Gonzalez and Jeramie McMicheal, Lanique Magee and Ty Spence.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team capped off their season with a record of 5-3, making it to the first round of the playoffs. The Pickaxes only having their run put to an end by the opposing Louisiana State University losing 2-0 in a best of 3 match. The members of the main roster being Thomas B., Josilyn Chapman, Alina Firestone, Abigail Hensley and Jalen Johnson.
