Major League Baseball’s winter meetings have been over for a week, but the organization saved one of its biggest swings for today—promoting Uzma Rawn Dowler to its new chief marketing officer.

A 10-year MLB veteran, Rawn begins her new role in January and will report to Noah Garden, MLB’s deputy commissioner of business and media. She’ll lead MLB’s global marketing efforts and coordinate with league executives across operations, revenue, technology, and all 30 clubs as part of MLB’s continued effort to grow baseball and create new fans.

Rawn is replacing Karin Timpone, who recently announced that she is leaving the league at the end of the year.

Rawn previously served as the league’s svp of global corporate partnerships. She will still oversee that team while reporting to MLB Network president and MLB evp of sponsorship sales Bill Morningstar. During her 10 seasons at MLB, Rawn has worked closely with brands including Adobe, T-Mobile, and Budweiser.

Before joining the league, Rawn had stints at both Premier Partnerships and the National Basketball Association. At Premier, Rawn was responsible for new business development and growth, securing sponsorships for MLB and NBA teams and New York City properties including Grand Central Terminal and the Intrepid Museum. In the NBA’s team marketing and business operations group, she advised teams within the NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League on marketing, sponsorship sales strategy and activations.

In 2024 and 2020, Sports Business Journal named Rawn to its Forty Under 40 after she was named a Forbes Magazine 30 Under 30 honoree in 2015.

Outside of MLB, Rawn continues to support her native community in North Carolina with both personal contributions and fundraising to build and open a new mosque. Rawn is a former board member on the John Starks Foundation and helped college students with financial difficulties. She’s a graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in sports management, and she lives in New York with her husband and three children.

“Uzma has been an invaluable resource for our industry and this expanded role is a natural evolution for her to make even larger contributions in helping to grow the sport,” said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in a statement.

“Uzma already helps baseball reach new, diverse audiences through her collaborations with our corporate partners where she provides marketing solutions for some of the biggest brands in the world. Now, combined with her energetic personality, never-ending commitment to the game and cross-industry relationships, Uzma can help bring baseball closer to our fans and partners alike—both in the U.S. and around the world.”
