Mayor’s Fitness Challenge

Mayor Derrick Henry and the City of Daytona Beach will begin the Mayor’s Fitness Challenge at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Julia T. and Charles W. Cherry, Sr. Cultural & Educational Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd.

The first meeting features a weigh-in and further information regarding the 10-week program, which The challenge continues to Saturday, March 15.

Registration is $20 per participant. Classes will be at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. every Saturday during the program.

Sit and be fit at the library

The Daytona Beach Regional Library, will host Sit & Be Fit at 11 a.m. Thursdays, Dec. 19 and 26 at 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway.

This library staff-led program focuses on stretching and strengthening from a seated position. Registration required. Participants should be 18 years of age or older.

Cherry Center

Grown Folks Basketball meets from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday at the Julia T. and Charles W. Cherry Cultural and Educational Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach.

Men ages 40 and older are invited to play and show some game. Admission is free.

Daniels Center

The Joe and Elwillie Daniels South Ormond Neighborhood Center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 176 Division Ave., Ormond Beach.

Daytona Beach pools

The City of Daytona Beach offers swimming pool access at the Cypress Aquatic Center, 981 George W. Engram Blvd., and Campbell Aquatic Center, 400 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Cypress open swim hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for ages 17 and younger. For more information, visit daytonabeach.gov/cypressaquaticpressaquaticcenter.

Campbell is open noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $1.

Children 7 years and younger must be accompanied in the water by a parent or responsible supervisor who is at least 16 years old.

Dickerson Center

The Dickerson Center offers cardio kickboxing at 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.

Classes for adults are from noon to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 5 to 6 p.m. for youth ages 5 to 17. Each session is $5 per person.

Nova Community Center

The gym at Nova Community Center is open at 440 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Ormond Beach Tennis Center

Ormond Beach Tennis Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to Sunday at 38 E. Granada Blvd.

It offers play for members and non-members, and classes seven days a week.

Schnebly Center

Schnebly Recreation Center at 1101 N. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach is home to the award-winning Daytona Beach Gymnastics, offering a range of classes for small children up to USA competitive teams.

The center also offers line dancing, bingo and yoga. Outdoor amenities are open from sunrise to sunset.

YSG Community Center

Kung-fu and Tai-Chi classes are offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural and Educational Center, 1000 Vine St., Daytona Beach. The fee is $40 per month.

Open gym for Daytona Beach residents to play basketball is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Port Orange REC

The Port Orange REC offers a variety of fitness classes and events at 4655 City Center Circle.

Daily passes are $2 youth, $4 seniors and students, $6 adults; monthly and annual memberships also are available, as well as income-based youth scholarships.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Fitness at the library

The DeLand Regional Library, 130 East Howry Ave., offers a variety of fitness programs.

Chair Yoga will meet at 1 p.m. Fridays, Dec. 20 and 27. Suitable for all ages and abilities. No experience or equipment is needed. Wear comfortable clothing.

Oncology Yoga classes

A free Oncology Yoga Class for cancer survivors meets at 11 a.m. each Wednesday at the Oncology Lobby at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, 401 Palmetto St.

Taught by Karyn Clancy, a licensed occupation therapist and certified yoga instructor.

Senior Fitness

Edgewater Public Library, 103 W. Indian River Blvd., hosts a Senior Fitness Class from noon to 1 p.m. each Monday and Friday.
