AUBURN (WGME) — There’s little to no snow right now in southern Maine, but that didn’t stop one group of kids from celebrating the season.
The group WinterKids kicked off its annual “Welcome to Winter” at Lost Valley in Auburn Thursday night.
The event featured snowshoeing, Nordic and downhill skiing, snowboarding and snow sculpting.
It gives kids and their families the chance to try new winter activities, while getting outside and connecting with their community.
“A way to introduce some new ways people might not think about how to enjoy winter, we do snow sculpting, snow painting, we give away sleds at the end,” WinterKids Executive Director Courtney Holub said. “We want to encourage outdoor play and recreation in all seasons but especially in winter.”
WinterKids looks to keep kids active and explore outdoor activities during Maine winters.
The non-profit group offers more outdoor events throughout the winter, including a family day and winter games, both in early January.
